A delicious breakfast casserole with apples and cream cheese, topped with a maple syrup glaze! Sure to delight your family this Fall!

This breakfast casserole, with its apples and cream cheese and cinnamon and maple syrup glaze just screams Fall! And folks, I am so ready for Fall!
My kids raved and raved over this, so I thought it would be a good addition to my Large Family Recipes page. If you are looking for big family recipes, go check out that page!
By the way, you can make this casserole ahead of time and then pop it in the oven in the morning, which is what I usually do. I’m just not a morning person.
This casserole also transports well if you want to take it to a potluck or a family in need. It can be breakfast or dessert!
So yummy!

A few notes about the recipe:
Bread – any bread will do, but I really like to use my Homemade 100% Whole Wheat Bread! That said, I often make this recipe when I have a random loaf of bread that isn’t getting used up fast enough. Last week, it was a sprouted loaf no one liked. Throw some apples, cream cheese, and maple syrup on it, and EVERYONE likes it!
Maple Syrup Glaze – If you don’t have maple syrup, use corn syrup. It won’t have that mapley-goodness taste, but it works.
And by the way, when you pour the egg mixture and the maple glaze over the bread, be sure to coat the bread crusts since these can get a bit tough if they aren’t soaked well.
Casserole dish – I use glass Pyrex dishes, and since I have a large family, I often use a 10×15 casserole dish (which isn’t always easy to find, so you might have to order one). However, you can use a 9×13 casserole dish if you really pack the bread in there. Your pieces will be thicker and there will be less of them, but it definitely still works.

Caramel Apple French Toast Casserole
Ingredients
- 1 loaf bread
- 8 oz cream cheese, cubed
- 2 apples, diced
- 6 eggs
- 1 c. milk
- 1 Tbsp cinnamon
Maple Syrup Glaze
- ¾ c. butter
- ¾ c. brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp maple syrup
Instructions
- Tear half of the bread loaf into bite-sized pieces and place in greased 10×15 or 9×13 casserole dish.
- Arrange cream cheese cubes evenly on top of bread. Add apples evenly over everything. Tear remaining loaf into bite-sized pieces and sprinkle over the top of the casserole dish.
- Beat eggs, milk, and cinnamon and pour evenly over the bread mixture. (If making ahead of time, stop here, cover, and refrigerate.)
- To make the maple glaze, combine maple syrup, butter, and brown sugar in a small saucepan, and bring to a boil. Pour the maple glaze evenly over the top of the entire casserole, paying special attention to covering any bits of crust with the glaze.
- Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until done in the center.

I LOVE fall recipes and this is a new one that looks like it would be a great crowd pleaser. My family on the other hand is quite picky about things being a little mushy, Does the bread turn out crunchy and does it have a super soft texture when all done?
blessings,
Shan

hello amy, was viewing your facebook page and saw that you said you wanted to try this recipe but had no oven…I went for awhile without an oven as well, but I found that my roaster oven baked things just as well. Here is a link to my blog that shows how I baked a cake in my roaster oven. You should try it with this recipe for french toast. That is if you have a roaster oven if not you can pick one up for around $30 from Walmart…Just my 2 cents….

Thank you. 🙂 I had a toaster oven for a while, but never could make it work the way I wanted. Thankfully, my oven is working again!

I recently watched your YouTube video of you making this recipe and decided to try it last week. We all loved it so much that I made it again! This time I made it last night, and I just put it in the oven before starting my morning routine. My kids are going to be so excited to be having it again while we do our morning reading! Thank you so much – you’re an inspiration!!
