We use audio books (books on CD) in the car. We have listened to all kinds of wonderful books that way. We get them from the library, and pop them in whenever we’re driving around. Just finished “The Boxcar Children”. Listened to the entire “Chronicles of Narnia” in the car a couple of years ago!! And we have chosen to use the Summer, since the days are longer, to read one chapter of a chapter book in the evening before bed. Two Summers ago it was “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, Last year was “The Wizard of Oz”, and this year is “James and the Giant Peach”. If there’s a movie adaptation of the book, we’ll watch it after we’ve finished reading, but the book has to come first! 😉 The children have gotten very good at noticing ways in which the movies differ from the books. Makes for great discussion.
