Lunch for the homeschooling family is often whatever can be thrown together quickly. I’ve written before about some of our favorite quick lunches and how we often just have soup, salad, or sandwiches, but lately pizza has also made the menu, and it is all because of this super easy pizza dough recipe that can be ready to serve in 30 minutes!
Check out my other Large Family Recipes >>
You basically throw all the pizza dough ingredients in your mixer, let it rest while you gather your toppings, roll it out and pop it in the oven for about 15 minutes!
My kids get so excited when I tell them we are having homemade pizza, and I’m so excited that I don’t have to slave over it!
Some of our favorite toppings (not all on the same pizza, mind you!):
- Tomato sauce with Italian seasonings and garlic
- Canadian bacon
- Pepperoni
- Hamburger or buffalo burger
- Onion
- Green pepper
- Cheese
- Almonds
- Artichoke hearts
- Chicken
- Black olives
And I seriously tried to get a photo of the finished product before the kids tore into it…but as you can see, that’s virtually impossible in this house!
(Note: I double this recipe to make 2 large pizzas which is enough to feed our family of 11 if I serve salad on the side.)
30 Minute Homemade Pizza
Ingredients
- 2½ cups flour
- 1 tbsp yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp oil
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp honey
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°.
- Throw all of the ingredients in the mixer with a dough hook and “knead” for 4-5 mins.
- Let dough rest for 5 minutes while you prepare the toppings.
- Roll out into two medium pizzas or 1 large pizza (rectangle shaped will get you more slices), add toppings and bake 12-15 mins.
- You have pizza ready to eat in 30 minutes! Yay you!

This is wonderful! We are always looking for some new lunch ideas. It is easy to get bored with same old stuff. My children, like most, are major pizza lovers, but usually it takes me a couple hours to make a homemade pizza. I am definitely going to cycle this recipe into our lunch routine! Thanks!

I think I might try this today! My sister just called and said her and her 4 kids are coming over! Pizza sounds great for lunch! 🙂

Thank you! My homemade pizza crust takes about 1 hr to rise, which is always a deterent for making it. And I can’t wait to buy this book. Love your recipe. It should make my life easier
Laura says
Wow, with it being that fast, we might start making homemade pizza, too. 😉

I love the West Ladies! I own all of their dvds and their cd. ( I was wondering if you were familiar with them) : ) We’re all pizza’d out though. : ( A BAD habit of mine is when I find something that we all love, I tend to make it so much that we soon tire of it. The word moderation is not in my vocabulary. Which explains a lot, if you know what I mean. :=)

Jillian,
Do you blog, because you crack me up and your comments always brighten my day!
Susan says
May I ask at what temperature you bake your pizza? Thanks!
Amy says
Oh my! I would forget to put the temp, wouldn’t I?! 375 (adding that right now!) Thanks!

hi! what would you recommend for someone who does not have a mixer (& dough hook)? I would love to start making this but I would have to knead by hand. How long would you knead this by hand?
Amy says
Knead it by hand the same amount of time! 🙂
amyg says
thank you! that was going to be my guess… but i am so new to making anything bread-related, i wanted to make sure 🙂
Kacey says
Do you end up using a lot of flour when you roll it out? I made this tonight and it seemed really sticky.
Amy says
We use oil to roll it out. 🙂
Vicki says
I love this! Yum! We make our dough in the breadmaker.. Another pizza idea is to use canned cresent rolls for the dough, cook it rolled out of course, then when it cools top with cream cheese and chopped veggies. YUM

I can’t wait to try this. I take care of my grandbabies and my little 4 year old only wants pizza! I wonder if I could make a batch of the dough and put it in the fridge and just take out enough to make a couple “little” pizza’s at a time????
Amy says
Although I’ve never tried it, I’ve heard this freezes well. Let me know how it goes!
Katherine says
Forgive my ignorance, but what kind of yeast do you use? Rapid Rise, ActiveDry??? Thanks! I’m really looking forward to trying this 🙂
Amy says
SAF Instant. 🙂

This looks great! Can’t wait to try it soon. Sometimes I cook up extra ground beef or ground sausage and stick some in the freezer just for things like this. Yummy!

This sounds wonderfully fast and easy, my kind of recipe! Can whole wheat flour be substituted? Or perhaps 1/2 & 1/2? Also, I use Tropical Traditions Expeller pressed coconut oil for times, like this, that I don’t want the taste of coconut oil, do you think that would work? Thanks!
Amy says
Definitely try it! I know the half and half works, but I have not tried all whole wheat yet.
