That was a necessary podcast for me just now. You have the gift of paring things down to the actual issue and giving practical, thoughtful advice – thank you!
We have just started our school year (NZ) and I have lots of ideas but am lacking the energy to get moving. My problem has always been the pressure to have our children academically ready for high school. We have homeschooled up to age 13 then they have started high school. All of them have merged into school really well, both emotionally and academically, but the pressure is nevertheless there.
My ten year old is a late reader/writer and he struggles with these things, so this year I’ve decided to plug away with a little every day and free up more time for him to explore interest-led, hands-on things. Still, I feel the weight at the back of my mind, even though I tell myself that he may follow a different path from the others.
In my heart I really want my children to have fond memories of their home education, so I think maybe I focus on my success as a homeschooler (whether I’m doing a good enough job), rather than their growing souls and minds.
So, I hear you – FAITH first. I need to slow down my mind and have some time with the Lord and listen to what he tells me.

((HUGS)) It’s hard, isn’t it?! It’s so easy to let it all weigh us down, but God has this! We need to rest in Him.

So helpful and convicting…feeling burnt out and listening to this I recognize it is because I am focusing on the external…getting the house clean, getting the “to-do” list done. Time to pray and reevaluate! Start fresh for the 1001st time! 🙂

It’s a never-ending job – and that is perfectly ok! Thanks for listening!
