Quick and Easy Hairdos for the Busy Mama, PLUS a Giveaway!

Being mom is hard enough without your hair getting in the way!  So, I thought you might like to see how this mama does her hair and win some great hair stuff while you’re at it!

A quick FYI before we begin…I have medium length extra thick hair which tends towards the wavy side.  Most of these styles work even when my hair is longer or shorter than it is right now.  I’ve never had thinner hair, so I can’t attest to how they work that way, but I think even if you have thin hair you could make these work.

And folks, I am going to attempt to name these, so beware…this could get interesting!

Style #1 – Messy Bun

Now that you have a visual of what a messy bun looks like all by itself, let’s move on to a style that incorporates this look…
Style #2 – A Twisted Mess

 

Start with a really scary Photoshop newbie photo…I mean…

Start by twisting sections from your forehead back to the crown of your head and pinning with bobby pins. (yes, you can do this if you have bangs, just leave them out)

The way you do this is by taking a manageable section of hair…

then twisting it close to your head…

and then pinning it by sliding the bobby pin in the same direction you twisted and then flipping it under and heading the opposite direction.  This secures it in place.
Do this from ear to ear and then take the loose ends of the hair from those twists and gather it high on your crown…
Pull the hair almost all the way through the hair band…
Twist the hair band and come back around just like you would for a regular ponytail…
This creates a messy bun (like what you saw without the twists in Style #1).  It is basically a bun that has stray pieces sticking out.  From here, it is easy to move those pieces around where you want them and spray.  (If you have thinner hair, you may need to double the ponytail holder back again)
Style #3 – Side-Part Pony
Ponytails can be a mom’s best friend, but they can also end up B.O.R.I.N.G.  Here’s a very simple way to jazz up the pony…
Give yourself a side part and then pull into a ponytail! (if I hadn’t tilted my head in this photo, it would have been way more obvious)
Style #4 – Wrapped Up
I LOVE scarves!  Not like my friend Lynnette loves scarves, though.  Mine almost always end up in my hair!  This is my current favorite way to wear my scarves.
Pull your hair into a ponytail and tie your favorite scarf around the hair band…
Criss-cross in front further down on your ponytail…
If you have longer hair, you can go back around one more time even further down.  Then, tuck then end of the ponytail under (if your hair is longer, you’ll need to twist it around the ponytail itself)…
Pull the ends of the scarf tight and up to the top of the pony where you will tie the scarf again…
If your scarf is extra long, you might want to go back under and around again.  Once you’ve finished, pull the ends tight so it stays or double-knot it if you feel like it is too loose (however, I’ve never felt like it was too loose).

Style #5 – Stick-a-Scarf-in-it-and-Call-it-Good Ponytail
It just is what it is…better than B.O.R.I.N.G. 🙂
Style #6 – Stick ’em Up!
This hairdo is how I met Mandy @ Life Outside the Box.  This is also the hairdo that has inspired the giveaway!  More on that in a second…

First, you take your hair as you would for a ponytail.  Then, you twist..and twist..and twist..working your way up to your crown…

Tuck the top under and fold the twist into itself…

Take one stick and weave it in at the top corner and back out at the opposite bottom corner…

Take the second stick and working from the opposite direction, weave it in and back out.

The fact that you have crossed the sticks in the middle makes the hair stay in place.  If it feels loosey-goosey, try again, making sure you cross one stick over the other near the center of the twist.

And voila!

    I’m a lazy pony tail/bun gal- My hair is getting ridiculously long (I’m growing to donate) and I can’t stand having it hanging in my face or getting yanked on by the little ones so I’m thinking that having one of those tichels or two might be really handy!

    Amy – Well, I have super-short hair, so I really don’t want anything. But I just wanted to say how much I like your hair longer again! Your picture in your blog’s side bar is old – I remember when you got your bangs cut! Anyway, I really like the longer hair and espeically all the fun names of the hairstyles!

    Oh my gosh I love hairstyle #4. I am going to try that one. My hair is thinck and wavy too always has been and i get sick of the same thing all the time. I will have to try some of them. My other favorite is the messy bun i think i do my hair that way almost 75% of the time.

    Wow, I checked it out and I could list a ton of things I would love to have. I think I could sport a snood sometimes, that would keep my hair tamed for a while. I am loving those tichels and certainly every color of triangle bandana!

    Cool! Thanks so much for sharing these quick hairdos. I LOVE the wrapped up hairdo with the scarf. That would be PERFECT for me, because I will often throw my hair up in a bun after a shower.
