Scripture adorns the walls of several rooms in our home. The idea isn’t new or unique, but it is a beautiful reminder of where our hearts and minds should be all day long.
I originally got the idea after visiting my friend Tina’s home. She had purchased the premade set of Watchwords from Doorposts and had them placed strategically about her home. They were lovely.
However, I wanted something more personal and unique to our family. So, here are the Scriptures we currently have placed about our home and the area in which they are hung.
Laundry Room:
Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
~Psalm 51:1-2
Bathroom (next to tub):
If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another€™s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
~John 13:14-15
Master Bedroom:
The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
~Proverbs 31:11-12
Next to my daughter’s bed (used to be next to mine, but she needed it more):
When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
Do not be afraid of sudden terror,
Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes;
For the LORD will be your confidence,
And will keep your foot from being caught.
~Proverbs 3:24-26
Beside the computer
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy€”meditate on these things
~Phillipians 4:8
Eventually, I want to add more and have them framed in diploma frames. They have been such a comfort and reminder and they are so very easy to make for yourself! All you need to do is:
1. Open up a Word Processor document.
2. Type or copy and paste from a site like Bible Gateway the verses you want to use in your home (set the orientation to Landscape if you like how ours are done).
3. Pick a font and color you like and any other extras you want on the page (we kept ours simple, but you could add ivy leaves, flowers, or any number of things).
4. Print and add a frame or just stick it on the wall the way we did.

Thanks for the great idea. I have verses wrtten on notecards taped to our big bathroom mirror. I noticed the other day that they have really gone unnoticed. So I think I will switch to your idea to help remind us! 🙂
Amy says
Moving them every so often does help them to stay forefront in our minds. We get used to what we see all the time and forget to read what is right in front of our noses. 🙂
Lena says
I love the idea!! A great way to memorize verses too! thanks!
Brandy says
We’ve got Scriptures hanging in several rooms too! We also got the Watchwords from Doorposts.
Several we hung up in purposeful places, but a few I need to move to a better place.
My favorite one? Right above our laptop we hung “I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes” (Psalm 101:3)

Oh, I forgot the one near my computer downstairs! I should bring it up here to my laptop! It is Phillipians 4:8…adding it now!

Great idea! I need to do this – adding to my list. I keep eyeing the framed prints in our Christian bookstore but they’re way too expensive. I should just do it this way! 🙂
Collette says
This is a great idea! I have some framed in my entrance way and coming down our stairs. I do love the idea of linking the theme of the verse to the area it is placed though.
Love Collette x

What a great idea. I often put different scriptures on our pantry (perhaps the fruit of the spirit would be appropriate there!) but haven’t thought to put things in a themed place. We do have “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord” Joshua 24:15 in the entrance of our home though.

Thanks for the idea. I think this will be a summer project that the kids and I can work on together! 🙂

love love love this! I’m re-doing the living room and will eventually re-do the childrens rooms.I’m thinking to take your idea, add a mat and a frame and I’ve got beautiful and life changing decore instead of just another picture! Thank you for sharing <3

The Word doesn’t return void. I have it on light switch plates as well as all my quilted art wall hangings.

We have also done this in our home. We have scripture about food on the fridge, light by light switches and lamps etc… I think it’s very much in line with deut. Thanks for your website we are in the process of adopting and we will be growing from 3 – 5(or 6) rather suddenly. I am already switching to a large family mentality the bath schedule is in place, junk is being sold, given and thrown away and we are getting the kiddos colored coded.
Rejoicing in Him,

I did this in the past and used different sized/types of photo frames. It looks really nice. I think I made one as a gift for a friend getting married too using the verse in Song of Solomon I believe…I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.
Great ideas. Esp. the one about the computer. I think I’ll make some up again! Thanks.

What a fantastic way to meditate on the Lord day and night and teach your kids to do the same! The idea of printing them out is nice so you can change the verses whenever you want. I “put on the armor of God” when getting ready in the morning. May have to use some of your verses too!

Oh, good idea! My 4 yo son loves the “armor of God” verses! That would be perfect for his bedroom!
Fruitful Harvest says
We have some scripture posters from the learning store…it outlines the Fruits of the Spirit.
I placed them in the kids bedrooms and play room.
We have the Lords Prayer,Books of the Bible,10 commandments and 1 Corinthians posters in the living room.
What great suggestions for making your own on the computer! Great post!
Warm Blessings,

The Estrogen Files says
I use an expo marker and write the verse I’m working on, or need, or want, or whatever directly onto the bathroom mirror. I see it whenever I go in there and am able to think on it more. I was going to say reflect, but that was too punny!

I’ve seen that done before, but I’ve always worried I wouldn’t be able to get it off! I take it the marker comes off easily?

As long as it’s a dry erase marker and not a Sharpie – I’ve never had a problem!

This is lovely! What a great idea, and I love how in-tune each of your chosen verses are with the task at hand. What about the front door? Do you have one there for when you leave your home, or for when you return?
.-= Michelle´s last blog ..Works for Me Wednesday: Snack Packs =-.
Amy says
I don’t have one there (and that’s a great idea!), although I’ve always wanted a sign over the front door that says, “You are now entering the mission field.” 🙂
Jaime says
This isn’t a frugal idea but I love wallwords (www.wallwords.com) for putting scripture up in my home.
Amy says
Funny you should mention that company! Yesterday I wrote a post with them in my list of things I’d like to own because I like how you can make your own quotes and have them nice and big and pretty. 🙂 I hope to someday own one or two from their site.
Jaime says
Ha! That is funny. I guess I should have read yesterday’s post first. I actually haven’t ordered the two that I have from wall words because they are expensive. I go through a cheaper company called “inspire your walls”. (inspireyourwalls.com) and was able to get my daughter’s life verse for about $30. Not bad!

Thanks for the website to check out! I’ll have to see how much they would charge for what I want. 🙂

Thanks for the tip. So easy, but I never thought of framing my own verses that I print out.

LOOOVE it! We have the sleep one up over the kids’ bed. i also the vanity is fleeting one up on the mirror along with a picture of my daughter playing with my makeup by my mirror – a reminder i’m being watched! good post!

Thanks Amy! I love your blog. We are in such similar seasons with the same aged children as well. I was just thinking about posting scriptures this morning. I wrote a verse in lipstick on my mirror this morning as a reminder everytime that I go in there. I think the idea of printing them and decorating them is much prettier. Thanks for the post. veronica

Your website is so nice to read through. I like to use scrapbook paper and print the Bible verses on it. Then I cover the scripture cards with clear contact paper.
Amber in Indiana says
I used to write on our mirrors with dry erase markers. worked better than post-its or notecards…

Thank you so much for sharing this. I am inspired and am planning to do something similar. What a great idea!!
