Last week, I mentioned there were some major changes going on around here. Not sure if any of you guessed what those might be, but now that we have told all the people who needed to be told first, I can tell all of you…
We are moving.
We are leaving that big house on the prairie because Ty took a promotion that has us moving VERY soon. It will be a professional move, so I won’t have as much work to do as some of our other moves. (See my series on Large Family Moving for some of my favorite tips and tricks for moving!) We are hoping to be somewhat settled before Thanksgiving so that we can truly enjoy the holidays.
We’ve made a lot of friends here, so telling people was very difficult, especially considering the very small window of time in which we were leaving. We have been in the area nearly 4 years (even though we have moved several times within the area), making this one of the most emotionally difficult moves we have had to make.
There are some really great things about the area we are moving to. The homeschool laws are fantastic. Our house is surrounded by beautiful big trees. The neighborhood is hilly and serene. The home is owned by a homeschool family (and was owned by another homeschool family before that). We have friends nearby, and much of our family will still be close enough to visit.
My friend, Candi, said, “You move more than you have babies!” She’s right. This is move #13 in 18 years. Some were due to college and some were due to rentals being sold. Some were job changes and some were job promotions. We never take moving lightly. It’s not something we just up and do one day on a whim. From the outside looking in, I’m sure it seems a little crazy, but we have seen so many things line up that we are confident this is where God wants us right now…just as the big house on the prairie and the 11 houses before it were where God wanted us then.

WOW!!! What a surprise!!! So will you still use the same people for the delivery of the baby? Where are you moving this time? PRAY all goes well.

The distance from where I already drive to deliver is the same, so yes, we will stay with my OB and hospital. We are used to driving to birth anyway. 🙂

Oh my goodness! I can’t imagine moving while pregnant! You brave woman. Though I can’t imagine moving at all… we are 6th generation farmers on the same land and so I have a funny feeling we’ll be here till we croak. 🙂
A new house seems exciting though… I am in major nesting mode and the thought of moving to a clean house where you can arrange it and decorate it from scratch sounds fun. 🙂

It is nice to start over. Sometimes I get antsy if we don’t move within a certain time frame! lol I grew up in a farming family too, and only moved once as a child, so this is a new experience for me!

I once heard a sister in Christ describing her frustration over having to move so frequently while her only son was growing up. She would beg and plead for her husband to find another line of work, “…..because”, she argued, “little Johnny needs the stability of having a place to call home!” She then admitted that she had been completely wrong, because Little Johnny grew up to be a missionary in the Middle East and frequently receives warnings in the middle of the night that he has been reported to the authorities, and he and his wife have to pack up and move on a moment’s notice. He has no problem rolling with the punches in that situation, and his ministry has borne much fruit for the Kingdom. You never know what God is working in and through your family’s circumstances, but you can always know that it is for the best 🙂

Prayers for sure! The move – I don’t have a lot of experience with that anymore but in college I know I moved 7 times in 2 years. But that is different, it was just me, no children, no husband. After reading your post, I thought “Oh my stars – what about your baby doctor!?!?!?!” But I am fairly certain you have taken care of that! If you all are moving to Missouri, you will have to let me know 🙂 We too have awesome home school laws!

That’s exciting and challenging all at the same time. The best part is having confirmation from the Lord. We move a lot, too, and we are moving before Thanksgiving also, but you’ve got many more folks (and stuff) to move! I pray you have a safe, successful move. 🙂

Congrats to your hubby! We are a military family and just made a huge move across the country, after having had the same duty station for 9 years. Seeing as my oldest is only 8 it was a huge deal to the kids because it’s the only one they were alive for/old enough to remember aside from a move across town. Best of luck to you all! We are a month into our new state, and it’s been trying but nice.

What a wonderful and exciting testimony to hear how God is working in your situation, so special. I have moved a lot too, and as a Christian who has moved a lo (waiting on him & seeking his direction)t, I think you described it perfectly! Before the place were are at now were were 4 years in one are (with 3 small moves) also. We finally have a small yard, a garage and an awesome dollar store close by 😀 I was not at all excited about moving to our new home/area, but God prepared me; his grace was more than sufficient; and he has given me a love and burden for my new community. It’s so awesome how ll we have to do is be honest, humble and submissive to his will and he will take care of the rest! What a relief <3

Missouri has GREAT homeschool laws…..so maybe you are moving to Missouri?? We just moved from California to Missouri, and we love it here. Either way, my heart understands this post so much. We are/were military but not all of our moves have been because of the military. We have moved something around 13 times in 13 years. Some are exciting, some are hectic, some are downright heartbreaking, and some bring such beautiful blessings. Praying for your peace during this! ” Lord please be with Amy as she prepares to move. Sounds like you’re moving from, “The Big House on the Prairie” to “The Big House in the Little Woods.” I’m glad you’ll be settled in before the holidays and before the baby comes. An advantage you have over me is how lean I imagine you to be. You probably purge things with each move. We’ve lived in our house for 20 years. That’s a lot of time to accumulate things in our attic! Yikes!

We’re in the process of moving too – close on our house next Friday. This time the move is only 30-45 minutes away from here so not bad. No looking for new Dr’s, new friends or a new church. We’ve moved many times too – this will be our 11th in 22 years. And with many little people (soon to be 9 – although our oldest just turned 18).
I would love to have you add how you are working your Prepping for a Peaceful Christmas plans around your move. I’ve been following along but not doing much – hard with all the packing and the morning sickness of a new baby (7 weeks and I get HG too) while trying to continue with homeschooling and other stuff.
Any chance you’re moving to NM? We have great homeschool laws too!

I love the attitude that you project about your coming move. You have embraced change, and are willing to go when called. My kids and I are memorizing “Here Am I, Lord” for our hymn this month, and your post fit right along with the theme of that great hymn. Praying that your move goes smoothly!

We moved 15 times in 15 years – then stayed put for 15 more years. God is good, ALL the time, and may be bless you abundantly in this next leg of your journey!
