Years ago, I had a landlord drop in one day. As he moved about the house repairing different things, he remarked about my love of “foliage.” I giggled a bit and told him how I loved to have the OUTdoors INdoors. He said, “You sure do.” I’m not sure he was impressed.
Plants make me happy. Sure, you can say it’s the oxygen they give off, but I don’t think that is the key for me…I think I just like FOLIAGE!
Every Monday, we water the plants. Some of them are from Emily’s funeral, some have lived with us for years. One of them was in our new house when we moved in!
For the most part, plants are easy. Oh sure, I’ve killed my fair share, but having a set watering day helps with that…and training your children not to dig in them helps too.
I keep our plants in the dining room where we have some great windows. (my new bio photo was taken near these windows, thus the wonderful natural light!) Since the dining room is hardwoods, I have plastic sheeting under them. In fact, it is the plastic I used in my old kitchen recycled!
I purchased a plant stand(there are some really cute ones in this link that I like even better than the one I have!). I simply arranged them on the plant stand, put them in a corner, and smiled.
Ahhhhh….foliage!
One of the plants from Emmy’s funeral had fake sprigs of pink flowers in it. I kept those as a splash of color amidst all the green.
Having plants in the house truly is a simple thing you can do to make your home more inviting. You can put them in different baskets (be sure to have something underneath them that is waterproof or able to catch water). You can hang them. You can enjoy the green all year long!
What simple things have you been up to? Link up below! {this week there will only be text links, but I hope to change back to picture links soon!}

I love flowers and plants. I bought 2 flats of flowers almost 4 weeks ago and I still can’t plant them outside because it’s still too cold, so they’re brightening up my porch instead!
I love this Simple Homemaking link-up, it’s just what I like to read about- getting back to the simpler ways of life.

Your plants are beautiful! I have two small plants, a violet that my neighbor gave me, and a jade that my oldest son gave me. I would love to have more plants in my house but until my little children stop making messes with the soil and we stop moving with the military it just will not happen. Thanks for sharing.

Good morning!! The link up entries don’t seem to be appearing and the button code didn’t bring up the button on my post.
BTW, I love your new picture. You are looking great!

I think we are fixed now. Just one of those days. 🙂

I am also having a problem viewing the links. My code from last week worked for the button, but the new code did not. Thanks for doing the link up!

I’ve fixed both the code and the link up. Working kinks out in between breakfast and cleaning the house! 😉

I must be doing something right. Every time I plant something, the birds come help themselves to my young plants. They have eaten tarragon, Italian parsley, rosemary, and a whole host of other plants.

The plants look wonderful. Unfortunately, I kill plants just by looking at them 🙁

Your new bio picture is recent? You look so young! Children keep us young, don’t they? 🙂

I love foliage too! 🙂 It makes me happy and cheery. I have a Bamboo plant that was given to me by a dear friend…but it’s getting a little out of hand. It reaches out and touches you when you walk in the door.
Gardening in a high desert climate however it much more difficult than growing them inside. So far the only thing I really have an abundance of is zucchini, which I’m told, will grow anywhere.

So jealous you can grow things. I killed an air fern once….I have no idea how.
