The second we unwrapped the CDs and put them in the radio, I knew we had a new favorite in our house! My children sat glued to the CD player listening to the adventures of real missionaries.

As a mom, I was thrilled with the quality of the audio dramas and the fact that the main characters are a large homeschooling family. I was also thrilled to see my younger children playing “Missionary Boot Camp”! It proved to me that what they were hearing was really penetrating their little hearts and minds.
Every single one of my children from 14 down to 19 months listens to these and almost all of them can quote them forward and backward (that’s how many times they have listened to them in the past several months!).
Since we purchased our 15 passenger van we have been without a CD player in the vehicle, but I’m considering finding a way to economically install one with good speakers so that we can listen to these while on vacation. Listening to audio dramas on family vacation is a tradition I sorely miss and these would be perfect! And I found out recently the Bultmans are getting ready to write Season 2!
I would also encourage you to contact your local Christian radio stations and ask that they carry the Brinkman Adventures as a summer special. More than 70 stations already have them slated for play!
And if you know any good, true stories of missionaries who are currently serving, Brinkman Adventures would love to hear from you!
My dear readers, it is the Bultman’s prayer that these missionary stories get into as many people’s hands as possible. You will find they truly have a heart for missions and for the Lord’s work everywhere. Even though they provide their CDs on a “pay as you are able” basis, please, please consider donating more to help further their work. And don’t miss the opportunity in the giveaway widget to download the first 3 episodes as their gift to you.
May you be blessed as our family has been blessed

Back when in-car cd players were relatively new, my dad bought a Discman, attached it with velcro to his car, along with speakers to plug into the player. It worked really well for several years, until the velcro wore out.

One of the best things I have done is read missionary stories to my children. For the most part, I don’t edit out the harsh or scary stuff..though I’m quite particular about what my children see and hear. I like them to see God’s power in the midst of hard circumstances..whether He makes it “all better” or if He chooses to see us through it. It didn’t deter them…two children have been overseas, one rather permanently, and two more are planning to go at least short term….I would love to hear these!
Julie Nitz says
Our favorite missionary is Jonathan in South America. He teaches the fullness of the “good news”. We love audio series and have the same problem as you with our new (to us) 15 passenger van.

Tammi says
We absolutely love radio shows–Adventures in Odyssey, Down Gilead Lane, The Sugar Creek Gang, The Adventures of Jonathan Park. We also enjoy the Focus on the Family Radio Theater stories.
Before we had our current van, I had bought a car kit (I either found it at Walmart or Target) which allowed me to plug in a CD player into the stereo system so we could listen to our CD’s while we traveled. It was very easy to set-up, the power cord plugged into where the lighter thing-a-mu gig would go and the other cords plugged into the audio and DC ports on the player itself.
Tammi says
I would like to add that we have been reading missionary stories together for many years, but our favorite missionaries are from our own family…my husbands sister, her husband and their children. They serve in Chad, Africa.

I enjoyed sharing the blog posts from time to time with my oldest.

My favorite Missionaries are Dan & Becky Rogerson who are missionaries in Italy – they went for 6 years without a single person accepting Christ as Savior – I am sure they were at times very discouraged, but God is blessing their perseverance and now the church has grown so much that they needed a new place to meet!

These sound fantastic, Amy! My children love audio drama, and I was looking for something to use in the car when we travel to Florida to see my folks. Thanks for the suggestion!

Dyan Croushore says
Sorry, I just read the instructions! I was so excited about the audio drama, I got ahead of myself. My favorite missionary is probably Nate Saint, because he showed incredible forgiveness and courage returning with his family to the jungle to minister to a people who had caused him so much pain.
Corrie says
My favorite missionary? Boy that is a hard one, especially since I have so many friends and relatives who are missionaries. But, I’d have to say my favorite missionary family is ours. Although we aren’t official missionaries (like, we don’t get paid for it), we have our local community on our hearts and are trying to reach them. We pray for and try to make opportunities to witness to our neighbors. We go to story hour at the library to make friends to witness to, etc.

We listen to all our radio theatre programs over and over…..Jonathan Park, Elsie Dinsmore, Adventures in Odyssey, Bonhoeffer, Anne of Green Gables, Lamplighter stories, etc. We also love missionary stories so combining the two sounds exciting! Years ago I was supposed to read the George Mueller story to my son for school. I read aloud the first chapter and then lacked the self control to not read the rest after he went to bed. The next morning he saw it sitting next to the couch and knew what I had done!

My favorite missionary is Marilyn Laszlo. She is a little woman with a big heart, and she spent 24 years living in the jungle among the Hauna people in Papua New Guinea. She came to our church’s Missions Conference last year and spoke. We brought home 2 videos (which we have shared with several people), a children’s book she wrote about her mission there, as well as a book for youth and adults she wrote about her life among the Hauna villagers. Her story is amazing, funny, and challenging. You can learn more about Marilyn at her website http://www.laszlomissionleague.com/meet-marilyn/. She would make a wonderful story for the Brinkman Adventures.
Thanks for this post and for the contest. I’m very interested in learning more about these audios.
Jena says
Sounds like a great idea!
Allison says
We love Brother Yun
Debra Brinkman says
My favorite missionary? Oh, wow. I think that varies a lot from month to month or season to season. Usually it would be whoever we’ve been reading about, but (unfortunately) we haven’t been doing that.
So either George Muller, with his praying to thank God for providing breakfast when they did not have enough to feed the orphans in the house — and food miraculously arriving as he finished the prayer.
Or Gladys Aylward and her scrappy determination to go where God was telling her to go, no matter what everyone else thought.
Or Eric Liddell, ministering to those in the POW camp in China even as he was starting to have pretty serious health issues that caused his death.
But I could list a lot of others too.
Lauree says
We are just getting into audio CD’s and would love to have this one!
