Dear Grandpa,
My whole life you made me laugh. Full of vim and vigor, with a full head of white hair to top it off. Irish through and through with the wit to match. You will be missed.
You already are.
I remember your lake cabin and how you wowed me there with your ability to remove your thumb – boy, was I gullible.
I remember how you scared all us little kids when you pretended to remove your false teeth and place them on the chair, except instead of your teeth, they were wind-up chatter teeth. We went crazy. You laughed yourself silly.
I remember how at your 90th birthday party you said if you had known you would live this long, you would have taken better care of yourself.
You were 94 years young and I think that is why we are all so devastated. You were never weak or frail and you fooled us into believing you would be with us forever.
You were the only Grandpa I had ever known. But, what a goodie! What wonderful memories you have left us with, Grandpa. Thank you.
And thank you, Lord, for all the time You gave us with him.

I am so sorry for your loss. What a blessing to have had such a wonderful grandpa. I never knew mine… but my dad was (is) old enough to be my grandpa. He will be 92 on Father’s Day and we’re all pretty convinced he’ll live forever, too! I am praying for you.
