We all know the song…
Four bears in a bed
and the little one said,
“Roll over…I’m crowded.”
So, they all rolled over
and one fell out.
Three bears in the bed
and the little one said…etc.
Well, these are my four bears in MY bed!

Every night, there is at least one child in my bed to start with. Sometimes we move that child. Sometimes we do not. It really depends on how big said child is. The 2 year old we can sleep around…the 5’2″ 10 year old we cannot.
Sometime in the middle of the night we gain another child…usually the 7 year old.
The scene above happens several times a month…take note of who is NOT in the picture (hint: do you see a mommy or a daddy type person???)
Now, take into account that my husband is 6’4″.
Add to that that my belly is about as wide as I am tall! In case, you need a visual:
And the last factor is…
This is a QUEEN SIZED BED!!!
Four bears in the bed
and the Mama Bear said,
“WE NEED A KING SIZED BED!!!”

Hey Girl~>>Great picture! We have a California King… we co sleep most nights there is 4 of us in it and 2 more on the floor next to the bed. I love it….we all talk together at bed time as we drift off to sleep. Its very peaceful.>>Peace and Prayers,>Georgiann

lol that’s a familiar scene in our home as well! We have a king sized bed and still struggle to fit us all in.>>I’m a new reader to your blog and look dorward to reading again. You have a beautiful family, I’ve gone through a mixture of emotions while reading – smiling, then crying and praying for your family. >>Emily’s quilt is so beautiful :o) what a wonderful gift.>>God bless>Vicki

I can’t recall if I have ever commented on your blog before (I may have a few months ago), but I believe I found you from the quiverfull digest. I check your blog daily as you are such an inspiration to me, and you encourage me to be a better mom! 🙂>>I had to laugh at this post because I can totally identify on this topic! We still have our queen size bed b/c we are too cheap (or good stewards sounds better) to buy a king. However, the next time I become pregnant, I think we will NEED to make the purchase so that I can get some sleep!>>Right now, we are focusing on expanding our family through adoption, so I guess we’ll keep the old queen for a couple more years… and squeeze each kiddo in if need be 🙂>>Thank you for your honesty in what you write… it has been a blessing to me.>>Happy Thanksgiving,>Beth

So cute!! That could almost be our family. 🙂 We finally have a king bed and the space is great. Sometimes our 11 year old climbs onto the foot of our bed in the middle of the night and I won’t even know it until I wake in the morning.>>While growing up, I did not live in a snuggly family. I’m not even really a snuggler myself but I have never denied my children access to my open arms. Many times the children will crawl in bed with me and snuggle (not my older boys though! I wonder why? Giggle!) including my 21 year old daughter. I couldn’t imagine in my wildest dreams cuddling up to my mom like that!! It just wasn’t done!! So I am happy that my children feel close enough to me to snuggle. As do you, I’m sure.>Blessings!>Kris

What a cute picture. I’ve had many crowded bed nights! Silas and Jonas used to sleep with us on a regular basis – when I was pregnant with Harrison there would be 5 of us in our bed (including tummy baby). Not very comfy but very sweet. 🙂 Although I shouldn’t complain because we have a big king sized bed. I can’t imagine that Ty can even fit in a queen. His feet must hang WAY off!>>Thanks for sharing. 🙂>Lynnette

I wish I was allowed to snuggle with my parents when I was little. They never allowed it. We were always in our own room and bed and I’d spend the entire night in fear that someone was breaking into the house. >>Now if our little 14 mo. old is in bed with my husband and I we lack room…it’s a queen that’s super soft so the edges don’t count…>>Your kids are blessed!

Gonna be honest, I have no desire to have our children in bed with us. They are, however, more than welcome to camp around our bed and it’s quite typical to wake to one to two of them there. While I can appreciate the whole ‘open arms’ thing, I see my marriage bed as mine and my husband’s one place that is ours alone. With 8 people in less than 1,000 square feet, my queen bed is a luxury!!!

Perfectly understandable, and honestly, many years after this post was written, we actually have no one who comes in our bed anymore (except for just a bit in the morning). They have each other and get up and immediately start playing with their sibling/buddies! I guess we are chopped liver! lol
