I almost didn’t post this.
I was afraid I’d get all sorts of hate mail because I cut Creed’s gorgeous brown locks. But, I figured if I was going to continue to post photos of my little guy, I’d eventually be found out.
So, here it is…
(please be kind 😉 )

He looks like a totally different baby! (By the way, in the bottom photo he’s outside and it was bright so his eyes are squinty.)
Here’s a side-by-side from right before we cut his hair and right after we cut his hair:

Honestly, 1st haircuts never used to bother me, but this time was not easy. Perhaps it was because Creed’s hair was so beautiful. Perhaps it was because it reminded me of Emily’s.
People still comment on how much hair he has, which cracks me up because that ain’t nothin’! What he has now is about as much as he was born with!
He’s still the cutest kid on the block, but part of me secretly wants to grow it back out. 😉
For fun, here’s a sequence of photos my daughter shot with her brand new DSLR.

Jen says
Aaaa! I totally love it! When input my first boys hair for the first time I totally loved it more than his baby hair! I think buzz cuts on little boys are so cute! My baby’s hair (he was born just days after or before yours, I forget) isn’t quite long enough for a cut yet, but I assure you, when it is, I’m cutting it!
Amy says
That’s usually been my attitude too. This time I just wasn’t nearly so confident! 😉
Leah Williams says
Awww…brothers. My last three in a row were boys. Somehow, their affection always makes each other cry 😉 Very, very cute pictures.
Amy says
Yep, little boys are rough and tumble even when they are giving loves. 😉
Sara says
I LOVE it. So much, good job Mom!
Heidi Wilson says
I agree with you – the haircut makes him look VERY different! My baby (who will be 14 months old on the 15th) has beautiful brown curly hair (and lots of it) and I will eventually cut it (and it will be buzzed like his brothers) but I LOVE the curls and he has inherited my ultra fine hair so I’m going to leave it and love it through the winter (Australian) and then cut it! The photos your daughter took are precious and amazing! My dream is to one day own a DSLR camera and to put some more effort into my own love of photography, but for now I am content with a good quality point and shoot as my children are still so young (7, nearly 4, and 14 months and all boys)!!
Jillian says
What a big boy! That sequence is too cute! You could really see the progression of Creed’s reaction. I guess big brothers lovin was a bit too much for poor Creed. He’s adorable either way! 😀
Sondra B says
He looks GREAT! And I love the kiss-cry sequence…I thought mine were the only ones who did that :).
Jessica says
I love his hair cut! So cute!
Tess says
Creed is absolutely precious!
HeatherHH says
I really like the haircut!
Cindy says
Wow. My one year old is still bald. I’m impressed. 🙂
Lari says
He’s a cutie either way. My 5 month old is a baldy…has a little blond fuzz coming in. None of my boys have had very much hair and I wait until Daddy makes me cut it around 18 months. 😉
Leah says
Hate mail? For cutting a baby’s hair?! Goodness, I hope not!
He is adorable, whether with more or less hair!
Danielle b says
Yeah I don’t get it either! He looks adorable. I like the cut, and the fact it’s not buzzed off. (Not a fan of buzz cuts)
Amy, funny you mentioned his hair being the same as it was at birth. I thought to myself when I saw his first pic, he’ll need a haircut soon, as in he has a full head of hair! I was shocked at how much hair he had when he was born.
Diana says
It’s always a bittersweet time, they grow so fast. I waited to cut my #2 son’s hair for quite a long time, because he had such beautiful blond curls. I was afraid they were just baby curls and wouldn’t come back. I shouldn’t have worried about that though, he is 32 and still has curly hair. You have some beautiful children. Enjoy the growing years.
Amy says
Aww, thank you, Diana. 🙂
Erica says
Aww he is completely adorable either way 🙂
Rebecca Stocking says
You are very fortunate that your son has hair to cut! All of my children were baldies for more than their first year. Once their started growing, it grew in thick. My husband didn’t want to have them get haircuts at all! My son got his very first real haircut at age 6 1/2. We donated his long lovely curly locks to Wigs for Kids. 🙂
Amy says
Oh wow! All my blondies are bald and all my dark haired babies have tons. But, Creed had the most by far!
Kim says
Totally Adorable 🙂
Charlotte Moore says
How much that changed his looks. Amazing!! Makes him look older!!! Haha!! Cutie pie though.
Jess B says
He’s adorable. Just adorable. Either way. He looks so
thoughtful in the after pic. Maybe the books behind him help that. 🙂
Amy says
I’m thinkin’ it might have been shock and not thoughtfulness! lol
Ashley C says
That baby is going to be cute no matter what you do to him! 🙂
My son had a peach fuzz head for the longest time and then it suddenly grew kind of long. I didn’t want to cut it either, but once I did I couldn’t imagine him with the long hair. We still go pretty long between cuts because he hates it so much.
I love the sibling love series! Looks a lot like my 2.5yo son and my 6mo daughter. Hugs that are a little too tight! haha 🙂
Amy says
Thanks, Ashley! 🙂
Michele says
He is just as wonderful as before!!
Amanda Sikes says
It never ceases to amaze me how fast kids grow! No matter how many we are blessed with it always seems to catch me by surprise.
Amy says
Me too, Amanda. *snif*
Stacey Masrud says
So sweet! We finally cut our youngest son’s hair two weeks ago, and it was so hard. He had these gorgeous blond locks, but people were starting to assume he was a girl. We ended up having to buzz his head, as we couldn’t get him to remain calm with a scissor in our hands. Sigh. It’ll grow back…right?
Amy says
That’s what I keep telling myself.
JudyZ says
Still adorable, but now more “manly” than “sisterly” lol. Wow, I never gave a first haircut that early! So sweet! Thanks for sharing!
Amy says
I never have given a haircut that early either! The earliest was 6 months. The latest was my last little one at 18 months (and he didn’t have nearly this much hair even then!)
Rachel says
aww! I know what you mean. My 2 y.o. has beautiful curly hair…well, at least until he starts smearing things in it. I have the hardest time letting Daddy cut it, and sometimes he has to do it behind my back 😉 Of course, my 8 m.o. had beautiful hair, but it all fell out except for some darling curls on top…but she’s a girl, so it gets to stay! Darling li’l guy you have…with or without curls!
Jacie says
He is still super scrumptious! I just wanna pop him! In a good way of course 🙂 Carbon just turned 4 months and is 18 pounds!!!! How big is Creed? Awesome name, by he way.
Amy says
18 pounds as well!
Marissa says
Awww…. his new look is adorable!! You are right though- a totally different baby!!
Kim @ Homestead Acres says
Aww I almost cried the first time I cut my little fella’s hair. But since his sister had started the job I had to finish it! lol
Sarah D. says
He’s adorable! At least you didn’t give him a mullet… Yes, I did that to one of our boys, but it wasn’t on purpose! Our other son’s haircut looked like I’d put a bowl on his head. My husband has banned me from ever cutting our boys’ hair again. lol Our daughter is lucky that we never plan on having her hair cut! =)
Reggie says
This same thing happened the first time I cut my little man’s hair! I stepped back and thought, Wow, does he look different! My little guy has never had an overly ‘baby’ face, so the hair cut actually made him look quite handsome in my opinion. LOVED the photo sequence!
