I knew when I went shopping yesterday morning that public school must be starting soon. There were more notebooks, pencils, and crayons than you could shake a stick at (to borrow a phrase from my father) being purchased by harried moms.
We homeschool year round, so I’m buying supplies all year long as we run out, but I know many of you keep the same schedule as the public schools, so I thought with school starting soon, I’d make this week’s link up homeschool related.
Our first post is from Gabrielle of MamaGab. This is her first year and she writes a lovely post on what it is like for her to choose curriculum, hoping to get just the right one, yet knowing there is no such thing. A First-Time Homeschooling Mom’s Curriculum Crisis
Perhaps, you are a first time homeschooling mom as well. Might I suggest this post from Artful Homemaking: Planning for Before Five in a Row

And finally, from Meghan Carver at First Comes Love, a A Flexible, but Organized, Homeschool Schedule! (These are my favorite kind, by the way.)
Last week’s most clicked link was Artful Homemaking’s Home Education Plans for 2013-2014. I guess you guys were already in planning mode!
Now, it’s your turn to link up! You can link up to 3 posts that encourage other homemakers. (If you are reading via email CLICK HERE to view links and link up your blog posts.)

Thanks for linking up!

Whew – we decided on ABeka for PreK…that’s a load off. Now I just need to get a schedule in my head. Thanks for posting the schedule above – I need to make one for a 4 year old. 🙂
Thanks for hosting!

Ah, thanks so much for the feature! That made my day! It was one of those posts that I wrote, thinking surely I was the only crazy mama to feel that way, until I received a flood of comments saying “me too, Gabby, me too.”

Hi, I am new to homeschooling, but am also considering year-round schooling. Can you tell me why it is better over traditional school year? How do you schedule lessons? Do you take time off at all?
We are also on a tight schooling budget. Do you have any suggestion for homeschooling cheaper? So, far I have been taking advantage of supply sales like the tax free time and even found a free spelling curriculum
( http://www.spellingcity.com/ ), but is there any other ways I can save?
TIA 🙂

We homeschool year round mostly because I need to be able to take off without guilt for things like morning sickness and all the traveling we do with my husband. I schedule a 4 day homeschool week and adjust as needed. I do not schedule out an entire year.
Check out Easy Peasy Homeschool and also Ambleside Online. FreeHomeschoolDeals.com has a lot of good stuff too. You really can school for free if need be!

We homeschool year round too, but we buy all our crayons, markers, pencils, etc in September. It is the most cost effective way to do it for us. We buy a year supply of our schooling materials at walmart when the crayons are $.50 and the glue sticks are $.25 otherwise we end up spending $2.47 for that same box of crayons or $1.28 for the same glue stick.
