A week and a half ago I wasn’t sure we would have a place to move into come the end of the month. Our family size proved to be a HUGE (pun intended) issue. Many of the management companies didn’t allow more than 2 children per room. Some landlords were concerned the hot water heater couldn’t handle our family. Still others simply weren’t places I felt would be a good fit for our family.
There were so many factors crowding in on me. My husband was away on business, leaving me to find a place without his direct input. Our current rental had sold and we were not able to take any extra time to figure out what were going to do. I was packing boxes fully expecting to put them into storage and move the family to wherever we could find a place to lay our heads.
And then we got a call.
A friend of a friend had heard we were moving. A house way out in the middle of nowhere was coming open the end of the month. Our friend said it was huge and he thought it would be a great fit.
But, I didn’t want to like it.
It was a long way from our current home. I had friends in the area and didn’t figure they would want to drive all that way to see us. I was familiar with this side of town and didn’t want to learn a new part of the country. I looked the place up on Google maps and immediately noticed there weren’t any trees around it. That right there was enough to make me want to say NO on the spot considering I have spent the last 2 years surrounded by woods. But my husband asked that I at least go check it out.
So, I took my oldest son with me and headed out.
As we took the drive, my animosity toward a house I’d never seen melted as I ventured into beautiful country. When we met the landlords, I instantly connected with them, and as they went out of their way to accommodate us, I realized this was the Lord providing. Providing for us in ways I never dreamed possible.
The house is a huge 6 bedroom, 4 bathroom house on a road less traveled. The rent is considerably cheaper than our current home. The quiet beauty of the area made up for the lack of foliage surrounding the house. The current tenants were able to get out soon enough that we could move straight in, and the landlords are wonderful people.
And today and tomorrow, a small army of friends surround us to help us move…again.
Yes, the Lord does provide.
My father-in-law and step-mother-in-law sent me a birthday card today (yes, today is my birthday!) with these words on the front:
A House is made with walls and beams…
A Home is made with love and dreams.
God has blessed me with a wonderful loving family and just enough grace for today. I think I am finally learning to enjoy the journey and relish the adventure!
Praise the Lord for his mercy, kindness, patience, and love…always providing just what we need just when we need it!

Ty is a blessed man. This is what I thought about when reading this: “The heart of her husband safely trusts her; so he will have no lack of gain.”
I’m sure he wasn’t happy about having to leave you alone, but I’m just as sure he felt confident knowing that you were capable of handling the stress of the situation. So happy for you guys! 🙂
Amy says
Thank you, Jillian. 🙂 He said as he was leaving that he trusted me to find the right house. That made me feel good (because I wasn’t sure I trusted me to find the right house! lol) I keep that verse framed on my bedroom wall. 🙂

Amy, that is so amazing and wonderful for your family! Definitely praise God for His perfect timing….a lesson I am forever learning the hard way it seems. May I ask if you all just moved quite literally across town then? Also, it seems as if all your moves are related to your husband’s job. Will this always be a requirement of his job then (moving often)? So happy your family has a new place to call home and you are so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family.=)

P.S. Happy Birthday!!!

Ask if you can plant a few trees. We do not plant them for ourselves but for the next generation. Although I’d plant them away from the house far enough that the owners would not need to worry about the expense of trimming them later. and trim them while young to avoid too many splits or y’s, Which will make them stronger.
Amy says
I am going to ask the landlord about planting either trees or some bushes. 🙂

Thank you for the account…….I appreciated reading it…….that is a big deal and one my husband is very concerned about….if we sell this house….could we end up homeless for a while? Scary thought. Our God provides though, and I am so glad to read your post. Enjoy your home. 🙂
