Celebrate Lent, Holy Week, and Resurrection Sunday with these Bible studies for kids and families! Some are free, and some are not free, but worth it!
We like to start celebrating the Easter season as soon as Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Actually, I hesitate to call it “celebrating” because what we are really doing is preparing our hearts and minds for the solemnity of Good Friday that leads into the rejoicing of Resurrection Sunday!
It is a slow and steady walk through why we need a Savior and Who that Savior is.
It is a walk I’d encourage all of you to take with your children this year, and here are some lovely resources to use on that journey!

What our Family is Using This Year
For Lent, we actually start on Shrove Tuesday (also known as Mardi Gras) with activities and plans from our Liturgical Calendar Guide for Protestant Families.
It can be purchased alone or as part of the incredible (and massive!) online resource Celebrating the Church Year.
On Ash Wednesday, we start our Resurrection Garden. This year, we will be making the artificial version.

Our favorite Easter devotional for our homeschool Morning Time is Stories of the Resurrection. This devotional goes through the stories of 20 different people (or groups of people) who are part of the account of the weeks leading up to and including Holy Week. It includes coloring and activity pages for your little ones, a countdown cross, and a mini-hymn study, plus so much more!

- Free Easter Sermon Notes for Kids (help them listen in church!)

Easter Curriculum for Homeschool
There are some resources that lend themselves to what we call Holiday Homeschool. These would be good as a break from your usual Morning Time or Afternoon School routine. (Typically, these are geared more toward the 4th grade and under crowd.)
Gentle + Classical Easter – This 2 unit, 2-week Christ-focused Easter celebration is best for children 2-8 years. You will be reading the TRUE story of Easter (at an age-appropriate level) through brilliant picture books. Your child will learn simple catechisms about Christ, memorize scripture, explore and observe nature, enjoy simple activities and crafts, work on motor skills, play with storyboards, and go on scavenger hunts!
Easter Guide – An 8-day study guide with daily Holy Week Bible readings in the order they happened, daily study of Jesus’ I AM statements, recipes and crafts, and much more!
An Expectant Easter – This curriculum is designed for the 3 weeks leading up to Easter with lessons for Monday through Friday, but you can easily adapt to more or less time. A Charlotte Mason approach with Bible stories, hymns, poetry, art studies, picture books, projects, baking, tea time, and nature studies, that focus on family, the newness of Spring, and the sacrifice that Jesus made, and the power of His Resurrection!
Suggested Read-Alouds for the Easter Season
Amon’s Adventure – short, exciting chapters that follows a boy named Amon who happens to be in Jerusalem at the same time as Jesus, and subsequently, experiences all the events of Holy Week.
