We’ve been celebrating this week! We decided to forgo traditional scholastic pursuits in favor of reading through Holy Week in the Bible, working on a Scripture Scene for John 10, and enjoying various other Resurrection Sunday type activities. There have been some years where we’ve participated in a Passover supper, but not this year. On Good Friday and Saturday, we’ll be with family. And on Sunday, we’ll be enjoying the day with friends.
One common tradition during this time of year is to dye eggs. Believe it or not, we have NEVER dyed eggs during Holy Week as a family. I think I did it once as a kid with my mom and my husband says he remembers doing it with his Granny, but for some reason, we’ve never done this as a family. So, today a new tradition began!
I picked up one of those little kits last week for $1.99 and bought some white eggs (Sorry, can’t bring myself to use my organic eggs for such a venture! Besides, they are brown and I don’t think they’d take the color too well)

It takes concentration in order to get just the right color.

Everyone took turns dipping their eggs.

We used shrink-wraps too…this was a before picture, but who can resist that adorable face?

Kim,
How fun!
Just the other day my step-mil was telling me about how they pierced the eggs to let the insides out and then poured jello in to make jello eggs.
Someday you’ll have grandkids who think gma’s eggs are so neat! ;o)

Amy,
When my kids were little, we blew the insides out of the eggs and then decorated them. I bought an Easter tree, and we attached ribbons to the eggs with hot glue. We also loved the shrink wrap ones because they were super easy but looked great! I would usually go to Hallmark and look for the wrappers on sale so I’d have a running start the next year. But I was also always on the lookout for a new egg decorating package so we could add to our collection (tie die, sparkles, stickers, etc). I stored the eggs in empty egg cartons and kept adding to the collection, year after year.
Even though Jill & Brent are grown, I still use the eggs we made years ago when I decorate for Easter. I still put up the Easter tree. We left some without the ribbons, too, so those are placed in baskets around the house. I can’t help but smile when I look at the eggs and remember all the fun we had decorating them. Kim F.
