When we started homeschooling, we were very much products of government schooling. I was most concerned about academics. I wanted my son to be smarter than any other little kid on the block. As a college graduate, I was confident I could accomplish this, and so began our homeschooling journey.

However, as I began to attend homeschooling conventions, read homeschooling books, and listen to those who had traveled this road before me, I realized there was more to this homeschooling thing than academics and educational pride…ahem…I mean excellence. I began to see that this was an opportunity to pass on our faith to our children in tangible ways. I realized I could weave Christianity into everything we did all day long. I realized I would be available to my children to answer those tough faith questions.
And then I realized…I had no idea what I was doing.
I was the girl who took Anthropology at a Christian college and had no answer when the professor announced he was an evolutionist and that was just the way it was.
I was the girl who learned her Bible as a group of totally unrelated stories and verses.
And my husband was the guy with the deep faith, but no clue how to pass it on to his children.
We stumbled along, relying on Sunday School and Bible Story books. But the hard questions remained unanswered…even in our own minds.
And then, a series of Audio Adventures by the name of Jonathan Park entered our lives…and transformed our homeschool.
This faith-based, full-cast audio series taught TRUTH in a way we had never heard. We were captivated as we listened right alongside our children! We learned real science for the first time. We were given tools to defend and promote our faith, and we could finally answer those difficult questions.
Listen to the audio trailer here…
We grew up with Jonathan Park. Every year, we purchased a new set to take on vacation with us. We passed them along to friends. We shared the information we were learning, and our children had the knowledge I had lacked in that college Anthropology class.
It became our mission to EQUIP our children, so if/when they ever faced what I had faced, they would not sit in silence wondering why the professor or atheist or business man seemed to be able to crush their faith with a single sentence. They would have answers. Yes, even if no one believed them, they would at least have answers.
Jonathan Park is as much a part of our homeschool as any curriculum we have ever purchased. The stories are about real places and real events. There is no shying away from the hard questions. There is no wishy-washy demonstration of faith. There is no giving up.
I tell you all of this because sometimes the most important components to your homeschool have NOTHING to do with whether your child has a higher IQ than all the other kids on the block. Don’t miss this fact as you teach reading and writing and arithmetic, because in the end, it is all about how firm you stand in your faith (Ephesians 6:13) and the answers that hold you steady (1 Peter 3:15). Your kids need strong faith and steady ground.

This was a compensated advertorial; however, these thoughts and words are very much my own. We have been Jonathan Park fans for years, and are thrilled to be working with them.

We LOVE Johnathan Park…and our kids are only 1, 4, and 6. I can’t wait to see what happens as they get older and continue listening! We used to listen to Adventures in Odyssey during rest time, and while we still enjoy those, I honestly like these even better. 🙂

We purchased the whole set (at the time it was 12) and listened to them on our road trip out west. We loved every bit of it! It’s been a few years and I’d love to bring them out again. We have a DVD player in our van and use it more than I would like. These CDs are a great alternative to having the kids glued to a screen missing the world outside their windows!

We love ours too. Getting ready to use the books with my youngest even though she has already heard every episode!
