I became acutely aware of something after doing the Simple Homemaking Link Up this past Monday.
I want to comment on your blogs,
But I can’t.
Here’s why…
I enjoy visiting your blogs. That’s the whole reason I have CommentLuv (that, and it sends other readers to your blog as well!). I WANT to visit your blogs. I WANT to read what you are up to. And yes, I WANT to comment.
But, there is one little thing that gets in my commenting way when it comes to Blogger blogs in particular.
If you don’t have your comment settings set to accept comments from ANYONE (which include those left by people who need a URL and a LINK in order to comment– as in, ahem, ME), then I cannot comment on your post. 🙁 {and that makes me sad}
So, if you are on blogger, PLEASE go to your dashboard. Go to your SETTINGS. Go to COMMENTS. And in the section that says: WHO CAN COMMENT? mark the circle that says ANYONE. {You can still moderate your comments so you don’t end up with a bunch of spam, so no need to worry about that!}

Corine, I use commentluv on my blog too, and I’ve learned that when I leave my url for it, to remember to use the http: and I have to put /feed at the end for some reason or it won’t pick it up.

Where it says website for leaving a comment on this blog (and several others with the same comment set up like it) type in the full url. I type http://www.createdforhome.net/feed. My blog address (url) ends at .net, however for some reason commentluv hates me and won’t find my last post unless I add /feed to the end.
I have no clue why I have to add /feed.

Crissyanna, THANK YOU! I’m going to try it here, right now. If this doesn’t work, I’m betting there is a problem in my HTML on my blog.* When I go to make a comment, I get a message that my feed could not be found, and that maybe my feed reference in my header isn’t proper. I don’t even know how to find it. This has been SO FRUSTRATING for me. I do get this message even with teh /feed on the end.

CommentLuv has been behaving badly lately. I had to go to their site and register so it would pick me up and then had to have my site “unbanned”. I’m beginning to wonder if it is a ploy to get people to sign up, but I could be wrong about that. I’ll do some checking to see what’s up (when I have a chance. 😉 )

So true! I ended up creating a Blogger ID just so I could comment on blogs that only accept Blogger comments…..but it’s far from the easiest solution.
Comments are open on my blog, because I’m one of those who needs a space for a name and URL too.

Mine is open to everyone, but I don’t think you commented (haha!) that’s ok, I forgive you, Amy. I do love the comment luv thing and I am still looking for someone to do my move from Blogger to WordPress. (The person we had talked about doesn’t do WordPress.:( So I will keep praying!

Thank you so much for addressing this! This happens to me so often on Blogger blogs that I read frequently. I really love to comment on people’s blogs and it can certainly be frustrating when it is not an option. I think many bloggers don’t even realize how many people cannot comment when they have their settings so limited. Thank you!

It bugs me when I have to choose an ID, but can’t choose my blog ID. Or if I have to go through a billion steps to post a comment. I usually give up. :-/

I checked mine and it’s open! I still get people say they can’t leave a comment once in a while…so strange. A switch to WordPress is in my future! 🙂

Thank you! This is a pet peeve of mine too, especially since I switched to self hosted WordPress nearly a year ago. I ended up keeping the Blogger account just so I could comment on some blogs. Which gets frustrating.

Thanks Amy! This is very good to know. I’m sure that some folks use the “blogger account” setting to help reduce spam comments. You certainly see the benefits of having more comments!!

I LOVE comments also, but sometimes Blogger is just uncooperative, and I get emails that people have tried to leave comments and couldn’t, even though my blog is set to allow commenting from anyone. You can put a spam protector on it, so that they have to enter the ‘code’ that they are given.
And, I’m trying Crissyanna’s suggestion for leaving the URL for my blog. I just signed up for Commentluv, and am still trying to figure it out. 🙂

I’ve read different opinions about comment Luv, and I was just wondering–have you found it helpful to improve the conversation on your blog? My intuition says yes, but I’ve seen articles saying it’s not been particularly helpful for some bloggers.
