Hi Amy! What are your children doing in the morning before school begins, especially the Preschool/Elementary bunch? I also greatly benefit from a “slow start” in the morning, but my children (8,6 and almost 4) tend to wake up really early and pull out every toy on planet earth, which makes for a massive clean-up before school even starts! This can make for a stressful morning very quickly. Do you have special activities for them, or certain things that they are allowed to do before school time?

There are a few things you can do…
1. Get them a “wake up” clock that lights up when they can get out of bed or leave the room (whatever stipulation you want to put on it). Here’s an example: http://amzn.to/2eMscV4
2. Try to adjust their bedtime so they sleep a little longer.
3. Allow only certain toys out during those hours (which might mean you have to get up with them for a time and “teach” how to play with just those things.)
My kids usually grab an audio and a notebook and pencil and sit in the parlor with the doors shut. My 2 yo gets in bed with me until the baby wakes up.

Loved this! Thank you! This is so applicable for me. I’ve really been getting overwhelmed lately, and it has felt like I’m hitting my head against some brick walls – the feeling that I have to give myself huge pep talks every day before diving into homeschooling, because I know it’s going to be THAT BAD. I’m really having to revise, revamp, get rid of some things (even things I love, but which are not working), and changing a bunch of other things – and making sure that I can do this in at least a relatively relaxed manner. Thank you for the tips and advice!
