Quietly, I slip away to the back porch. I know it won’t be long before little people begin streaming out after me or begin knocking on the back glass behind me. But, for a moment in time, I am alone.
Rare does not even begin to describe this moment.
I take a sip of coffee and manage to wrap my lips around a whispered,
Lord, let this be a good day
when I remember the coffee cake in the oven.
I inhale the freshness of the morning, exhale an, “Amen,” and step back inside to retrieve the almost-burnt-but-salvageable coffee cake from the oven.
While finishing up breakfast prep, I pray again for a good day, along with prayers for people I know who are in need and anything else the Lord brings to my mind.
My eyes are open, my hands are busy, but my heart is fixed on Him.
This is praying without ceasing.

I know what you mean. The Lord hears them whether we are in solitude or surrounded by our children and their chatterings… And He answers them – He is a great God.

I completely understand! I do exactly the same thing, only mine is my front porch in the mornings. One thing I’ve found helpful is writing my prayer requests on a sheet of copy paper and putting them in a gallon-size ziploc bag and sticking it on my shower wall. (It will stick when the walls are wet.) Prayer requests are right there for everyone to see and pray for while their washing up!

Amen!

Amen to that! Seeking first His Kingdom and His righteousness in the morning, even though its a small prayer, helps us to continually fix our hearts on Him! How easy it is to forget that!
Gretchen says
Yes, praying without ceasing, “I need Thee every hour…”
Amen to that!

I love this. I needed to hear that I don’t need to “fit God in” He is there and I can pray without ceasing amidst the duties of the day.

Oh yes, we grab our moments whereever with can, even in the privacy of our own mind xx

Isn’t this the truth! I have unfortunately read some books by very well meaning people that say if you don’t get up an hour earlier than the kids to pray then you are not doing it right.
Talk about walking around feeling guilty and worthless. I walked in that for a while. Then I realized “pray throughout the day”. This is not my idea but God’s.
Now, I am in constant communication with my Lord throughout the day. And you know what….guilt is gone : )

Indeed!

It has taken me years but am so thankful that I now don’t feel guilty for not having the prescribed 1/2 hour to hour of uninterrupted prayer time each day. I pray all day and am thankful for the times that God gives me that I do get to have uninterrupted.
Thank you for this post!

What fine words of encouragement and instruction. To pray without ceasing requires a thankful heart and that is a marvelous thing to nurture. And to encourage gratitude in all moments and in all things is one of the most incredibly powerful pieces of advice you could share.
I’ve enjoyed your attitude and your post. You just found another fine follower on this Finer Things Friday.
