This week, I went to…
Phoenix, Arizona!
Of all the places for a pregnant, sick of the heat, mama to go! But, my husband had a conference to attend there and it was a chance to take some time away with him.
And besides, it’s a dry heat they tell me.
We were joking with my doctor about going there and she said,
“Yes, it’s a dry heat…you know, like an oven.”
Hot is hot, folks. Get up over 100 and it really does not matter if it is dry or not. Just sayin’. 😉
Because I was in Phoenix most of the week, I just couldn’t pull off a weekly update that I felt would do justice to my sonogram, so you will have to wait until next Friday to see baby. Until then, here are some fun facts for this week and yes, that beloved ticker.
*Getting in and out of certain vehicles is a chore. Honestly, my 15 passenger van is the easiest by far!
*I ruin shirts right at the belly. And sometimes I can’t even see that I’ve messed up a shirt until I take it off to wash it. My belly is apparently the catch-all these days and I obviously do not know where I begin and where I end.
*When I walk too fast, my hips burn. If I weren’t pregnant, this would probably be a good thing, but I’m not much for pushing limits so I can feel like I’m getting a good workout these days. I’ll gladly walk a few steps behind you. It’s ok…go on ahead…I don’t feel bad about it at all.
*Now that I’ve had my sonogram, I feel like the next thing I have to look forward to is the birth! But I suppose that is a little unreasonable at this point, huh? Guess I’ll have to sew some more diapers and do some more planning to keep me occupied.
*I bought this baby book. I’m not the greatest at keeping them up, but at least I actually have one.
Next week is the halfway point! Woo Hoo! And I promise I’ll have pictures! 😉

Have lived in Phx for 20 years and I still am not used to the “dry” heat. It has been extremetly hot this August and now it is really humid. I am 26 weeks pregnant and pretty much just stay in my house :-). Did you get to see any sights while you were here? That’s great you got a trip with your husband!

We didn’t really get out of the hotel where the conference was. But my husband did hike a hill while there. Used to be known as squaw peak maybe?

I live in Australia, in an area where the summer heat can hit 110 degrees. The whole dry heat thing does make a difference but I actually know some people who prefer moist heat. Either way, hot is hot!
But I’m weird, I actually prefer summer pregnancies! I have this thing where I struggle to keep body heat while pregnant, I’ve been pregnant right throughout winter this time (obviously, since we’re in the southern hemisphere) and have HAD to have a hot shower morning and night, and sometimes halfway through the day, just to warm my body back up. It’s quite amazing, I can be rugged up in a tracksuit, skirt, long top, jacket, bed socks, and still be freezing, but once I get out of the shower I realize it’s actually quite warm and only need a light skirt and long top since, where I live, a winter day can easily be 70 degrees+. It’s made dressing the toddler interesting as I try to guess how warm/cold she is!
So glad things are warming up now. Give me a summer pregnancy any day lol! Isn’t it funny how pregnancy can affect people so differently.

I loved the baby’s first year calendar. I was pretty good about writing the milestone in the calendar. We kept ours near the kitchen so I passed it frequently and we had pens close by to make it easier.

I’m from NY and I lived in the Phoenix area for 5 years, and I agree with you – it’s hot! Dry or not, it just feels hot to me! I really don’t know what the difference is. My husband thinks I’m crazy for not thinking there is a difference – hot is hot to me!
Looking forward to seeing your little bean! I’m almost 23 weeks with #7 and it never gets old seeing that little one on the screen!
One quick question – You said you have a 15-passenger van, do you need a special license to drive it? We just bought a 12-passenger van, and was considering a 15-passenger, but found out you need a special license to drive the 15-passenger (at least here in NY).

No special license needed unless you are driving it for commercial purposes. 🙂

I had to laugh – I’m originally from Phoenix, and yeah, it’s a dry heat, but as my friend says, “so is a convection oven, but you don’t want to stick your head in it!” I’ve been back to Arizona 3 times this summer, once to Phoenix and Tucson and honestly, I don’t know how I ever lived in that heat!

Diapers. I am struggling with my diaper decision. I have decided on pockets…my sister is CDing and is on her 3rd child…and has switched to all pockets, so I figure that is a safe decision. But we can’t afford the expensive ones…and I can’t bring myself to buy used. Nothing like sharing underpants with someone you’ve never met. Gross. So I am looking at Sunbaby, Kawaii & Alvababy. I think I have decided against Alvababy, I’ve heard the pockets are hard to stuff and I don’t care for their website. Though they do have a set of diapers with double gussets that I am going back and forth on. Kawaii has a great sale going on right now, I can get 24 diapers with 48 inserts for $132. I figure for that “small” amount of $$ if I don’t like them, I can always afford to get something I do like later. Aarrgghhh!! How do you make the decision? I only have 3 months before the baby comes. I have to figure this out soon.

When I first started cloth diapering, I had to just make the decision and take the plunge. It was hard but it all worked out in the end and I love it!

Awwww!!! Heat IS heat. But ANYTHING is better than heat + humidity.
I encourage you to keep up w/the baby books. It’s one of my most treasured items I have now that my mom is no longer with me.

I would rather dry heat over humidity any day. At least I can breathe properly with dry heat.

Just an idea for the baby book…perhaps if could be an on-going project for one or more of the kids. Your budding photographer can be responsible for adding photos to the baby book as well.
