Last week, I totally missed the fact that the baby above is in the final block of the ticker! Woot!

In many ways, this pregnancy has flown by. With all I have going on right now, these final weeks are going to end up being a blink of an eye I am sure. However, I do find myself despising nights. I just feel “off” at night. I itch. I feel a little panicky. I don’t sleep well. And I long for the day I get to hold this little one on the outside. While I do not have cholestasis (a liver issue that causes itching in pregnancy), I am going to try the medication they use to treat cholestasis. It is sort of a shot in the dark, but I am willing to try it. I’ll let you know if it works!
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and thankfully, I’m not lifting a finger. While I think I could find something to cook with in my new kitchen, I don’t know that I have the energy to actually make something that would taste good. I find myself saying, “next year” a lot. And while I really hope the Christmas season doesn’t pass us by without our family being able to enjoy some of it, I know that it just isn’t going to be like other years — and we are all going to have to be ok with that.
Some of you may remember that 6 years ago I was due at Christmas with Baby #6. I was actually due ON Christmas Day and I spent that day wondering if the little twinges I was feeling were real or not. I ended up not having him until New Year’s Day (yes, he was the first baby of the year in that hospital!). I don’t really anticipate going past Christmas this time since I am due the Monday before Christmas and typically, my due date is pretty spot on, but it does remind me an awful lot of how I was feeling back then. So much wondering about when baby would come, what Christmas would look like, how we would celebrate if I was in the hospital, etc. There is a lot to consider when you are due this time of year!
Yesterday, I had my GBS screen. I’ve been positive twice, so I’m anxious to see the results. I also had my Gestational Diabetes appointment. My blood sugars have been great, so I’m hopeful this will all right itself once baby is here. I will say that since being diagnosed, I’ve only had a couple of sodas. One thing I’ve noticed is that soda BURNS as you swallow when you aren’t used to it! It was NOT the enjoyable experience it once was.
I am dilated just a bit, which is normal for me. Baby is head down, but a little off sides – again, pretty normal for me.
I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration. By the time I update next week, I will be in Baby Month! Yippee!!!
And don’t forget about the WishBin Giveaway going on right now! You could win $100 worth of your wish list!

You are getting so close!! I hope the meds will help with the itching.

So EXCITED for you! Again, 5 weeks behind but feeling a lot of the same emotions and definitely the itching! I get that every time.
Our 5th child was born December 26, 2009. Christmas Eve I slipped on our basement stairs and spent the night in the hospital. I could not walk without crutches until New Years due to cartilage separation in my pubic area. (Ouch – epidural birth, yes). Anyway, I came home Christmas day on a cocktail of meds and I don’t really remember the day at all. My children enjoy reminding me about it still and that was 5 years ago. The point is, Christmas went on. I am told they really enjoyed it! I did get to come home for less than 24 hours and was home on Christmas Day, but I wasn’t really here. And they made it work! And then all of 2010 I kept saying “this Christmas will be different” and really made up for it. You do what you can at the time and then when you are able you make it better. Your children are most likely a bit like our children – they will be and have been understanding of the entire situation. It is a season. A fleeting memorable season! And you are modeling to them what is truly important. And you look awesome!!!!

Hi Amy!
We’ve had two babies at Christmas (12/26 & 12/28), so I know it’s a hard time of year to be expecting 🙂 I’ve been praying for you & your family and just wanted to encourage you today to remember God is in control of all the details …. moving, unpacking, baby’s position, itching ~ rest in Him ?

Oops ~ my heart emoticon at the end showed up as a question mark!! Sorry … it was meant to be a heart hug, not a question 🙁

I had to share….I actually had a dream last night that I was looking for your next pregnancy update online and instead saw a post that baby had arrived early! There was even a sweet pic of you two lying in bed smiling!? Anyway, our minds do funny things in our dreams, right? Enjoy your last month of pregnancy! (Or maybe less? 🙂

Ha! How funny!

I always enjoy reading your pregnancy updates! I haven’t been able to comment recently (& wow, the last week flew by! It seems like yesterday I was reading your 35 week update!). I’m so excited for you! You are beautiful and radiant. I have had two born around Christmas. It is a busy time of the year for our family (lots of birthdays across the family) & it is such a blessed time!!
I’m praying that you will have time to sit in the evening after the kids are in bed, to read the Word and find comfort and peace in his words. I know that off/restless feeling you describe. I lay in bed with my older kids as they doze off to sleep and I read my bible. It is such a comfort and puts things into perspective for me. It is a great feeling, laying down (ahhh! :)) next to my sleeping kids and spending that time being encouraged and comforted by Him. It helps me also since I would otherwise find work to do, but they love when mom lays with them, so it’s a blessing to them, but me also! (2 for 1 deal!) 🙂
Blessings to you and your family!
Thank you for sharing your pregnancy updates! 🙂

I feel like you take my thoughts and emotions and write them out every week.:). I am 34 weeks with baby #6. I have gone early and late with my babies so it’s always such a guessing game as to when baby will arrive but with the holidays right in the middle of it all it just adds a new excitement, sometimes anxiety, about the whole thing!!! What if I have the baby on Christmas eve or Christmas? What if we are having bad weather? What if I go into labor during my Dr.s vacation? So thankful I can trust in the fact that the Lord had all those details already perfectly planned out.:). Blessings to you in this most blesse time!!!!!

You are a pretty pregnant lady! I also had severe itching near the end of my pregnancies and didn’t have the cholestasis either. I think it was just my skin stretching and stuff. Misery! The lady who cuts my hair did have it, though, and bless her heart. She could barely give me a haircut because of constant itching. She ended up having to be induced because of dangerous blood test levels. My only “holiday” baby was my son. He was due right at Easter. We don’t do egg hunts and stuff, but I wanted to make sure I was around to fix my girls’ hair and make sure they looked pretty on Resurrection Sunday. He was 6 days late, so I was good. LOL

I had a couple bad cases of itchiness while pregnant with my #6, doctors could find nothing. I found online a string of comments somewhere that said to drink V8 juice. I am NOT a fan but I think it did work. Itchiness went down, and I figured I was getting extra veggies anyway so it couldn’t hurt. 🙂

Worth a try for sure!

I think it would be pretty cool to have 12-13-14 as a date of birth! And, an easy, non-stressful Christmas gift idea for your kids…..get them each their very own box of junk cereal that they always want but you never buy. They’ll love this Christmas….the year their new brother or sister arrived and the year they each got their own box of cereal! I’m laughing, I know, it’s a silly idea, but now you see how things work at our house! Ha!
Happy Thanksgiving 🙂

12-13-14 is my due date! Hoping she comes a little earlier, though. I like your cereal idea! :).

I’m due with #6 12-12.. My older ones are hoping for 12-13-14. 🙂

Never thought of the 12-13-14 thing! That would be rather early for me, though. And yes, the kids WOULD love a box of junk cereal all their own! LOL

I’m due with #6 December 12, so its been fun to follow along with your updates because we are so similar. Just wondered for your itching, do you drink any herbal teas? This whole pregnancy I’ve drank a lot of herbal teas and one of the things I’ve added is stinging nettle. Stinging nettle is a great liver detox so since you are going to try the meds I thought maybe the tea would be great to try! I’ve been blending stinging nettle, alfalfa, spearmint, red raspberry, and rose hips and trying to drink 2 quarts a day. This is the first pregnancy of the last few that I haven’t had a lot of braxton hicks or prodromal labor. Its been a nice change. 🙂 Just thought I would share!
Amy says
I’ll definitely look into the stinging nettle! Thank you!

My last baby was the New Years baby for the entire county where I live. 🙂 It was really neat. There was a lot to talk to everyone about since she came in 40 mins!!! Lol. It was insane!!! Lol.
