Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
~Ephesians 5:22-24
Did he say what I think he said?
Yes, he did.
He stood up there on that platform and said something I had never heard before. Something I didn’t really want to hear.
He said,
You don’t have a submission problem.
You have a WORSHIP problem.
He cited Ephesians chapter 5, and as I thumbed through the verses, I realized he was right.
submit to your own husband as to the Lord.
It’s there. Plain as day. My level of submission to my husband equals my level of submission to my Lord. If I don’t submit to my husband, I DO have a worship problem.
I don’t submit to my husband because he’s perfect and worthy of praise. I submit to him because God is perfect and worthy of praise.
Whoa.

Weekends in the Word is a ministry of Raising Arrows meant to offer a time of worship and encouragement specifically for those mommies who find themselves, due to circumstances beyond their control, unable to attend worship services with other believers. However, all are welcome here each weekend to feast on His Word.

A verse that I need to be reminded of often so THANKYOU for that gentle nudge. It is always very important to remind women WHY they need to submit.

I spent the first several years of our marriage waiting for my husband to be “worthy” of my submission. Boy, did I have it backwards.:) Enjoyed this post a lot!!

Very true! We think of worship as something we do through song on Sunday morning, but really, it should be a lifestyle! It’s more than songs we sing, but the way we live our lives!

This was very timely for me as I have been struggling with this as of late in a way I haven’t in years. God is good! Thank you.

We just studied this in our women’s bible study at church. It really spoke to my heart. Thank you for the reminder and for sharing it!

I’ve just recently been convicted in this area. Particularly in an area that is very dear to my heart, but not my husband’s. I prayed for God to change my husband’s heart, but instead, He has changed my heart. I know that if I am submitting to my husband, God will bless that. That is more important than doing what I want (even if I think it is what is best). I like thinking of this as an act of worship! Thank you for the confirmation!

I’m such a head strong person that I have struggled for 8 years with this. This year I have begun to change and I notice the difference in my husband. It’s really been awesome but I have a long way to go! I totally enjoy your blog 🙂

Isn’t he just one of the greatest preacher/teachers of our time? I enjoy him so much….even when he steps on my toes!

I recently posted on submission as well. http://raisingmightyarrows.blogspot.com/2011/05/beauty-of-submission.html
I plan to write more next week on it. “Feminine Appeal” by Carolyn Mahaney has great chapter on being submissive.

Whoa. That is good. Yeah, he is anointed to speak truth – God used one of his sermons to cancel our vasectomy a few years ago and trust Him with our family size. Loving it!
