It has been brought to my attention that this post could be misconstrued as me suggesting astrology is a good thing, which it is not. I’ve reworded a couple of things in the hopes that that is quite clear.
The pulling together of our own curriculum has been such a blessing. We have only been at it 2 weeks and already I see fruit! Dig deep into God’s Word, my friends, and let that be your main focus during the school day! You cannot go wrong.
While studying up for our Creation through the Flood unit, I was introduced to a concept that surprised me and challenged me. I’m still waiting to see how it will turn out.
That idea is that God owns the stars that make up the constellations that tell a story and man has perverted it. It’s been a hot topic for discussion here as we search the Word for answers and understanding.
Then God said, €œLet there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;
~Genesis 1:14The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
~Psalm 19
This concept was originally introduced to me from Christine Miller’s All Through The Ages.

We are reading another book entitled God’s Voice in the Stars and looking at the Scripture that points to stars providing knowledge and information…not the kind of information that man creates on his own, but the kind that speaks of God’s love for a lost world–a Gospel message in the heavens. {My friend Dee sent me this article as a rebuttal to this concept: http://watch.pair.com/zodiac/ }
Is it possible that the stars that twinkle so beautifully above us as we gaze up at that endless expanse of night sky might be more than just a smattering of light? Do they really “utter speech” and “reveal knowledge?” And not random knowledge, but a real Gospel in the stars.
Is this truth? Or another perversion? Is this by God’s design or is this man trying to make God’s Word fit their corrupt ideals?
I will never, ever be able to wrap my finite little brain around the glory of God…but I will certainly keep seeking to know Him more.
Every day.
Every night.
Weekends in the Word is a ministry of Raising Arrows meant to offer a time of worship and encouragement specifically for those mommies who find themselves, due to circumstances beyond their control, unable to attend worship services with other believers. However, all are welcome here each weekend to feast on His Word.

I wanted to recommend the video “Star of Bethlehem” to ya’ll. It would fit with your study of Astronomy and Larson does such a amazing job of wowing you with God’s hand in the orchestrating the stars!

Hi Amy. We have been studying from Creation on this year also(using AIG’s “Ancient Civilizations and the Bible” and “All Through the Ages” as a guide)and loved the books by Ruth Beechick, “Adam and His Kin” and “Genesis: Finding our Roots”. Have you read those? They really made the events in Genesis not seem so far away and separate from us. 🙂

We love the material they offer. And have used many of the things they have and will be doing much more again with Answers in Genesis this years school as well.

This is great! And it didn’t at all sound like you’re a proponent of astrology. This idea that you’re sharing first came to my attention in a GREAT Christian documentary “The Star of Bethlehem”http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&sugexp=ldymls&xhr=t&q=the+star+of+bethlehem&cp=14&qe=dGhlIHN0YXIgb2YgYmU&qesig=Y145_mSmP2f2zNEnoD7qDA&pkc=AFgZ2tmrF4nq4Xs3pvYxJBVCrc_VP-bSMES1XVqO6B-G9BOV7zClGuvJqBiX0vXMR2FzoscmMt0aegmMLQ9olZdiiPs6S9d4Cw&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1280&bih=675&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=3271290872042572613&sa=X&ei=DM_8TbnXL4n4swPz9LDeBQ&sqi=2&ved=0CEsQ8wIwAQ

This concept was presented to me over a decade ago. Recently I have been urged (I believe by the Spirit of God) to study and learn about the heavens and what they reveal according to the Word of God.
I believe that the ‘evil one’ doesn’t have an original thought, he always copies and perverts that which the Almighty has designed. I believe that this is what happened with the witness of the stars.
I also firmly believe that Scripture indicates that I as a believer should be aware of the stars, times & seasons, and know what they mean. So I have been trying to learn more. Thanks for your post, it’s good encouragement!

I have a good friend that did lapbooks with her children using “The Witness of the Stars” by EW Bullinger (1837) after she read “Adam and His Kin” by Ruth Beechick. Here is her blog with pictures and commentary of their study.

I am excited to start the same study in the next month and will be following her lead.
I will check out what the other comments have added too!

What a great topic! It did make me think of how the magi followed the star to Bethlehem! I might have to check out that book too! I think God had a purpose for all He designed. An interesting topic for sure! I’d love to hear what else you find as you research. I might need to do some myself! And I agree with Brandi. Satan loves to counterfeit what God has created. So why would the stars (astrology) be any different? So many people read their horoscopes every day and actually believe that what it says is true. Good thought Brandi! 🙂

Yay! Isn’t our God amazing and awe-inspiring and wonderful?!
Have you seen anything by Louis Giglio? He did two tours (and consequent DVDs) called “How great is our God” and “Indescribable”… they’re inspiring and are a gospel message presented with the amazing beauty of God’s creation in the stars… you can see it on YouTube, I highly recommend it! 🙂

@Anita, thanks for the suggestions. Good foundational introduction to the heavens!

I was also introduced to God’s speaking through the stars via Ruth Beechik’s Adam and His Kin. It makes so much sense and as usual, it is easy to see how man could have perverted another of God’s creations. If you don’t have this book on your list I highly recommend it…..From another Anita!

I do have that book and we are scheduled to be reading it soon!

Beautiful, Amy.
We have that book — All Through the Ages — and you’ve encouraged me to pull it out again. 🙂
