As a kid, I didn’t like Thanksgiving. I didn’t like turkey, I didn’t like pumpkin pie (yeah, I know…how UN-American can you get?!) and I didn’t have a clue how to be thankful.
As a grown up, Thanksgiving has become very dear to me because I know now what my younger self did not – turkey and pumpkin pie aren’t Thanksgiving.
I am thankful for many things this year…
- the prospect of a move to the country – coming Feb 1!
- the 6 children God has allowed me to watch grow up
- a husband whom most women only dream of being married to
- mercy and faithfulness I do not deserve
Our Thanksgiving plans include a couple of dinners hosted in our own home and one at my uncle’s house. We’ll do our usual Christmas decorating and Ty will have his usual tussle with the lights for the tree because we refuse to buy a pre-lit Christmas tree and instead continue to limp along our 30 year old glorious-in-its-day tree.
This year, we are adding Thanksgiving stockings to our many holiday traditions. We were all in need of new pajamas, but let me just say that buying pj’s for this crowd is not cheap!
I also wanted to let you know you can find me in the Heart of the Matter Online magazine. My article is entitled Thanksgiving and the Children and is about helping your children be a blessed addition to the Thanksgiving festivities rather than “those naughty kids.”
And if you are looking for a more peaceful home this holiday season, don’t forget to check out my ebook – Creating a Peaceful Home!

And I am super excited about some upcoming freebies here at Raising Arrows! One of them is very near and dear to our family and will be offered only to subscribers, so if you don’t already see me in your Feed Reader or your inbox, sign up now!

The idea of a Thanksgiving stocking is brilliant. I will have to bring that up with my husband and see what he thinks. It is too late this year but we can always start planning for next year. 🙂 Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I don’t like pumpkin pie either, but it will be on our table today. I also made a pecan for our daughter and myself:) Happy Thanksgiving. You are in our prayers.

Yep! Add me to the group of folks who aren’t that keen on pumpkin pie! LOL!
