Christmas is a wonderful time to take a step back from traditional homeschooling and do unit studies to go along with your holiday baking!
It isn’t uncommon for a homeschool mom to find herself stretched thin when the holidays roll around each year. She often wonders how she is going to fit in homeschooling amongst the holiday preparations and time spent in the kitchen whipping up festive treats for festive funtions.
Homeschooling during the holidays used to feel incredibly overwhelming to me, but then I discovered a better way – Holiday Homeschooling! I enjoyed it so much, I wrote many posts and put together a Holiday Homeschool Planner specifically for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons!
With a little creativity and patience, you can relax and let the homeschool lessons be taught by gingerbread men and candy canes, by Christmas trees and Manger scenes. It doesn’t have to be elaborate to be memorable!
This year, let your holiday baking be your homeschool curriculum!

IDEA: Consider what specific recipes you will be baking and build a lesson around those! Are you making those delicious candy cake cookies? Do a lesson on candy canes! Are you making fudge? Do a lesson on chocolate – where it comes from, how it is cultivated, and learn more about James Cadbury and Milton Hershey. The possibilities and lesson ideas are limitless!
