A decadent Trim Healthy Mama Cookie Dough Dip makeover recipe! Kids get graham crackers to dip in while you eat this S dessert with a spoon!

When I first started doing Trim Heathy Mama, I stuck to the basics. I’m not a foodie, so experimenting with recipes is not my forte. However, as I’ve gotten more confident in building and changing recipes, one of my favorite things to do is THMify favorite recipes.
This cookie dough dip is one of those recipes.

About a year ago, I came across an amazing Cookie Dough Dip recipe from Add A Pinch. It is decadent, let me tell you!
The kids were asking me to make it again, but I knew it was going to be an instant sugar overload, so I decided to experiment and see what I could come up with that would taste just as wonderful, but not send my blood sugar through the roof.
This is the result of that experiment…
I first set out ingredients for a double batch of the Add a Pinch recipe because I have a large family and knew I wanted to have enough extra to make some of it by the recipe and some of it THM’d for me. (But honestly, I don’t think the kids would have noticed if I’d made the whole thing THM – and it sure would have been a lot healthier for them too!)
Once I had the butter and cream cheese creamed, I took out 1 cup of the mixture and set it aside as “mine”. (You could definitely use a lower fat cream cheese to help cut down on calories.)
By the way, the recipe at the bottom of this post is for a FULL BATCH of Cookie Dough Dip. If you want to make enough to share or save for later, make the bigger recipe.
For a quick treat make the 1 cup recipe:
By the way, is it just me, or is there something kind of sneaky-happy about making a treat just for me in my own little bowl?!

So, after I took out the 1 cup for myself, I continued on with the original recipe for the kids so that they would be occupied with eating while I made my own healthy treat.
(Again…I should have just THM’d the entire recipe and kept it healthy for them too.)

While my kids dipped their ooey-gooey goodness up with graham crackers, I started throwing together my version with all intentions of eating this stuff by the spoonful…alone…in a dark room.
Oh wait! It’s healthy! No dark rooms needed!
To the 1 cup of butter/cream cheese mixture, I added 1/4 tsp caramel extract and 1 Tbsp Trim Healthy Mama Sweet Blend. (If you don’t have the Sweet Blend, take a look at this conversion chart and find an alternative sweetener you do have.)
Lastly, I stirred in 1 oz of chopped unsweetened baker’s chocolate. It’s what I had on hand, but you could use any plan approved chocolate (Lily’s Stevia Sweetened Chocolate Chips would be fantastic!), including skinny chocolate!
By the way, Lily’s chocolate is expensive, but oh so good! Frankly, way better than skinny chocolate. (Sorry friends, I’m just not a fan.)
My favorite (which is kind of hard to find) is the Milk Chocolate.
But a close second favorite are Lily’s semi-sweet chocolate chips – and they are much easier to find at your local grocery store.

The end result was so YUMMY!
I chose to simply use my spoon and savor tiny bites of this dip – no carby graham crackers needed!
However, you could use this recipe for low-carb cinnamon dippers to be your vehicle for getting this tasty treat to your mouth.
Or you could try a S cookie.
But folks, you really don’t need anything but a spoon! Trust me here!
You can do what I did above and make some for you and some for the rest of the family by taking out a portion for yourself and THMifying it, or you can use the recipe below and share the sugar-free goodness!
The recipe below will make plenty to go around! (Use the recipe within the post if you just want a little treat for yourself.)

I try to stick to the basics with Trim Healthy Mama too and just slowly find new desserts – those baking flops can get expensive! This one looks like a winner. I think there’s a ginger snap recipe in the THM book – that might make a good ‘dipper’ for this dip.
Amy says
Great idea!

If you wanted to cut out the animal fat, this would probably be really great with coconut oil instead of butter. If you’re not watching fats you could try adding chopped nuts. Toasted oats or quinoa would add some extra protein.

Thank you so much, Amy, for sharing this recipe! Lately, I’ve been struggling with the temptation for carbs that I know I shouldn’t have. I’m doing so well with my weight loss, I don’t want to blow it! Will definitely give this recipe a try. Blessings to you! 🙂
Becky {Milo & Oats} says
Oh YUM! This looks delicious. And not to tempt anyone, but my favorite dipper for this kind of thing is pretzels…you could even do gluten-free pretzels if needed:-) Sweet and salty!
Megan says
Yummy! So you have obviously continued to use the sweetners with Stevia and had no problem with your pregnancy! I’m so confused about the use of Stevia while pregnant. Glad you have been successful!! And great recipe, can’t wait to try it!! 🙂
AnnaMichelle says
Hi. Does the recipe call for (2) 8 oz. boxes of cream cheese, or between 2-8 oz. of cream cheese?
Amy says
2 boxes, 8 ounces each.
AnnaMichelle says
Thank you!!! 🙂

Hello,
I love your recipes! Is buttemilk THM approved?
Tasha says
Mmmmm Delicious! ~Made half the recipe 🙂

I am new to THM. Can I use apple slices to scoop up the dip? If so,, is this still a S? Looks great… I love this type of treat.
Krista says
The apples would be an E and the dip is S, so if you ate it together you’d have a crossover.
Eileen Miller says
You could also use this for frosting!!
Karen Bohls says
Planning this for a weekend treat! Has anyone tried the Greek Yogurt Cream Cheese yet? We r starting our THM journey, one thing at a time!
Jill says
Oh. My. Goodness.
I just whipped this up for my sons birthday party. (We have a few hours.) My husband walks out of the bedroom and sees me LICKING THE BEATER! He just laughed and laughed. This is DELICIOUS!!!!!!! Oh my………..
Christine says
This has got to honestly be the best thing ever! Do you have any thoughts about putting it into 4 oz jars as a snack or dessert after an S meal? I don’t want to go overboard but would love to keep a bunch of these in the fridge ready to go when the craving hits! hahaha
Amy says
You could deinitely do that, Christine! Just be sure not to eat too much in one setting!
Arleen f Smith says
I am just starting THM and so would I need to wait to make this recipe after my first month? I keep hearing conflicting opinions not just for this recipe but for several recipes. I have a huge sweet tooth and feel like if I could have something sweet it might help me stay track.
Amy says
This a Heavy S, so yes, I would wait unless your family is eating something you REALLY want and you need an alternative to help you make it through.
Christianne says
Do you use THM Gentle Sweet or Super Sweet for this recipe? Sounds delicious!
Amy says
Back when I made this recipe, there weren’t two different kinds of sweetener. I believe this would be closest to the super sweet, but you can definitely use the gentle sweet and just use a bit less.
Deb Burns says
Is the sweetener gentle sweet, or super sweet?
Amy says
I think back when I made this recipe there was only 1 and it was most like super sweet.
