I’m that crazy lady who takes all her kids to the polls. I get school hours in, they get a sticker…it’s a win-win situation!
And tonight, some of my children will participate in their first election party. We have a good friend running for the state legislature, hoping to de-seat the incumbent. I am so excited for him, but I am also aware of how much this will change their lives if he does win the election.
This isn’t the first of our friends to run for office. We’ve witnessed others who have had to endure hardships in order to participate in this thing called government. We’ve seen how families have had to adjust to a life that involves long hours, long distance parenting, and financial strain. These people don’t run for office for the glory of it, they run for office for their children because they know the very fabric of this nation is woven with families…not political agendas.
My children know we vote because we want to protect rights we have not just as citizens, but as parents. We want to raise them in a nation where we can choose homeschooling and choose it legally. We sometimes have to make difficult choices when it comes to voting along Biblical lines. We have to make choices that keep their welfare and welfare of any other children we might have at the forefront. We are always looking forward. Our children are very much the reason for our forward thinking.
Our friends who have run for office love their children very much. They have sacrificed much to help usher in government policies that help families, rather than tear them apart. And yes, some of them have suffered persecution because of it. Why? Because sometimes what the family and our children truly need, isn’t very popular. So often, government officials are blind to what families need to survive. In turn, they are blind to the truth that without strong families, a nation will crumble.
As Christians, we must be about families. We must speak up for our own children and for those children who have no voice. We must do what is right at all costs. For some of us, that means running for office. For others it is working on campaigns. For all, it should be taking the time to vote…and being that crazy lady who brings all her kids to the polls. After all, it’s a family affair!

I’ll be another one of those moms who takes all her kids to the polls today. Then off to the grocery store we’ll go. :O) Thankfully our precinct is small and hopefully the wait won’t be too long.

We took all 5 kiddos and voted earlier today. In an act of complete and total rebellion we all( not Dad) pinned tea bags to ourselves 🙂 Anywho, I just want to encourage everyone to go and vote! In Texas you can count it as part of your citizenship class in your homeschool!

I was planning to take all my kids to the polls, too; but when our neighbors offered to watch the kids, we decided to leave the twins home and just take the older two. I agree–it’s a family affair!

How fun!!!
Our tale isnt as glamorous. I want to vote together and talk about everything. My husband is much more personal. Go figure. We get absentee ballots but never fill them out unti the VERY last minute. My husband worked late, I rented Toy Story3, cleans cleaned up dinner and watched movie, we voted, hubbie dropped off the ballots and i fell asleep. A party sounds like a lot more fun:)

Yea, another one! 😉 I love taking my kids to go vote. Since I’ve always done it, it never really crossed my mind that other people don’t until a year or so ago. My kids love going and being a part of the process. When we walked in this Tuesday, we had the usual smiles, but they said, “They can’t have their own ballots.” 😉 Each kid got to color in a ‘vote’ for me. I choose the paper ballot so they can. It’s such a great experience.
I’ve never known anyone that has run, but that sure would be exciting.
