Today’s Large Family Organization tip is from Dawnielle Westerman, mom of 5:
“We have the worst time keeping up with brushes/combs around here so now we tie them down!! I have one brush tied down in the kids bathroom, and a brush and a comb tied down in my bathroom.”

Ha ha! I need to do this…we only have two children but I still can never find a hairbrush in our house!
Lisa Maria says
I can SO relate to this one lol! Never thought of tying it down though. They travel from downstairs to upstairs to my car to my husband’s and are NEVER EVER in the bathroom or at the dressing tables where they belong. Great tip.. thank you!
Melissa says
Now that’s an idea I hadn’t thought of. I’m going to think about it and tweek it a bit for my family of 7 girls (lots of hair & brushes to keep up with), one boy & another baby girl on the way!
Christie says
We do this! We have Hairbrushes on leashes so they can’t walk off.
brandy says
The brush in the picture has a hole in the end…wouldn’t it hang nicely on one of those 3m hooks or a skinny row of hooks. Put each child’s initial or name on the back of the brush. Double duty – 1) there is a place for the brush that is visible and easy to see it’s missing. 2) youi’ll know who your brush theif is.
Momma Mindy says
YES, we have that problem! In fact, it isn’t exclusive to hairbrushes, it also extends to my nail clippers, tweezers, my scissors…
I’m wondering if I tie them all down if my bathroom will eventually end up looking like a spider web.
I did had a friend who used small link chain to screw her scissors in the kitchen drawer. Her kids kept cutting her string.
Teresa says
This is so funny. Scissors are the only thing we have walk off. Well the dog leash did once to, but we put a nail in the wall to hold it now.
Maybe it is less of a problem with boys, we only have one girl.
Rachel S. says
Our biggest problem is that our dog likes to eat them, I’m not sure it would matter if they were tied down or not. LOL There are days when we have to search for hairbrushes but I can handle that better than the dog eating the hairbrush.

YES!!!! I love it!!!! Thank you!!!!
(only a Mom of Many would totally understand and get this excited)

This make me smile! I need to do this too … Great tip – thanks for sharing!

I don’t do this with our brushes, but I do use this same idea for my kids’ pencils! My kids love to write and draw and were always swiping the pencils out of their desks to run off somewhere to write their next “masterpiece” 😉 I tied them to their desks, and when it is time to do our morning writing, I don’t need to spend time hunting down pencils anymore! I also don’t need to keep buying more. I must have bought 3 boxes of pencils last year before tying them down, still not sure where they all ended up lol 😉
Ginger says
I keep all the brushes & combs in my bathroom and have a rule: You can’t leave my bathroom with the brush/comb.
Easy peasy.
Brittni says
Great idea!
Robin says
Great idea. We are always searching for hairbrushes. Now to figure out where to tie it. We rarely do hair in the bathroom.
Susan, mother of 11 says
Oh, yes, the great hairbrush hunt. I have done that one waayyy too many times. We have just one bathroom, and that is usually in high demand when preparing to leave the house for the store, church, and whatnot. Hair is rarely done in the bathroom. I was always hunting for a hairbrush at inopportune times. I ended up having to buy a different hairbrush for each girl and me(that makes 5, and all have long hair.) If I find a hairbrush around the house, I know just who the culprit is. Lately, it has been none other than….me! Hmmm.

AMy, I linked up today (I know it is Friday and all and will come on Tuesday next week) but I can’t get that little box thingy to work. I copied and pasted but it just showed up as a little box at the bottom of my post.
I will try again on Tues.
Hugs…

I’ll check into it and see what the issue b/c you are not the only one having trouble. 😉
Christi says
Thanks Amy!
Cj says
Thank you!!!

I’ve been telling my family I’m going to do this! After buying three new ones (I thought surely they wouldn’t go missing too….), I STILL can’t find a hairbrush some mornings. :/
Jimmie says
Our issue is nail clippers. I have resorted to your tactic before. Desperate measures, people!
Carissa in KS says
I spent last night googling ideas for containing the toothbrush clutter in our kids’ bathroom. This morning, I started looking for ideas for taming the hair care items. This idea is genius. Absolutely genius. I know what I’ll be doing after we get school done today!
