I imagine you never expected to be introduced to the stove before anything else in our new house! But, I have to tell you, the stove is a defining feature in our home. When the stove elicits exclamations such as, “Where did you hide the stove?!” you know you have something special!
The photo above is our ENTIRE stove. It’s not missing the stove top, you just can’t see it because of it’s lovely 1960’s super-compact, edgy design.
See that little “Release” button? Push down on that and slide that stove top right out of there!
Oh, how chic! Oh, how luxurious! Oh, how RETRO!
And if that isn’t enough for you, check this out:
The oven door opens like something off of Back to the Future!
The bad part about this stove is I’m afraid I’ll break it. The good part about this stove is I had seen one just like it years ago, so I didn’t totally freak out.
A quick note about the Welcome Home Link Up:
Unfortunately, WordPress changes my code every time I post the link up code and it causes my emails and rss feed not to work right. If I’m very careful, I can get it work right, so this week I am being very careful. Hopefully, it works! You can find the button code in my sidebar to link back.

LOVE that stove. But I’m weird like that! ; ) Hope you are settling in nicely and doing well!
Kelsi says
well, I should know never to work on my blog before I drink coffee! The link above that says “Kelsi” is ACTUALLY a post called “BUILDING CHARACTER (NOT JUST SKILLS): AGE APPROPRIATE CHORES FOR KIDS”. I can’t seem to follow simply directions before I drink my coffee! woops! enjoy!

Awesome stove/oven! You said you are getting back to healthier eating via whole foods. Do you have any suggestions for books or cookbooks you have used? Maybe something that is easy reading for someone who has never done this and wants a quick crash course to get started? All I can think of is green smoothies and salads, which I would tire on very quickly. Thanks!!

I love my Whole Foods for the Whole Family from La Leche League (it’s retro like my stove! lol) and then Kate from Modern Alternative Mama has some awesome ebooks that make it super simple. I think the one that I thought was most helpful for newbies was the Real Food one, but honestly, they are all easy to understand. 🙂
Cindy says
How do you keep little ones from running into that? The way it juts out there looks kinda dangerous. No wonder you don’t see many of those! Be careful!
Amy says
It is lower than a normal stove top, so I worry about burns, but they don’t run into it because there is an island opposite it that keeps that from being a high traffic area for littles.

I love your oven! I have a single oven by the same manufacturer that was in our house when we first bought it. When we re-did our kitchen, my husband put it in the basement for me to use in the summer. It’s a workhorse – I still use it when we have company. I hope you enjoy baking & cooking in it – looks like fun!
Amy says
The landlord warned me that she didn’t think it baked quite right, but when she put a thermometer in it was fine…I’ve had wonderful luck with it so far (hope to show you some bread that came out of it soon!)

Now that is a stove! 🙂 Thanks for hosting another week of Welcome Home, Amy. Hope you have a great week. 🙂
A Mama's Story says

That stove is both amazing and terrifying!! LOL

GASP! “Thou shall not covet…..Thou shall not covet……..”.(repeat ten times)
Okay, now that I am done reminding myself of such an important commandment, that has got to be one of the neatest stoves I have ever seen! Where do you find such a treasure?!
I am so happy for you, Amy. With so many blessings to feed, a stove like that will be very helpful! Enjoy it immensely for all of us:)
Amy says
Michelle,
It was in our rental when we moved in! It’s not been nearly as scary as I thought it might be either. 🙂

My grandma has a stove exactly like that! She loved it so much, she took it with her when they moved. Although it is not the stove/oven she used everyday, she still does use it occassionally.
Kim says
I had that stove when we moved into this house only it was turquoise! Thanks for the flashback.
Amy says
No way?! That’s too funny!

Wow… I’ve never seen a stove like that!
I’d be afraid of bumping into the stove when the “range” is out. 😉
I hope you are settling into your new home. Look forward to outdoor pics too. 😀

Outdoor pics coming soon…. 😉

Love Love LOVE IT!!! I’m retro that way… we have gorgeous 60s orange counter tops in our kitchen with chic recessed can lights. Not gonna be in the budget to change them, so I just go with it…. we have copper jello molds as wall hangings up around the soffit, Reminds me to counter modern-culture in more than just my kitchen decor 😉
Mrs.B says
I just love it!

I am so glad you posted pictures of this! My parents always tell about how their first home was so small, it had a stove that pulled out from the wall and you had to push it back in to open the front door (I’m sure this made cooking dinner when my dad got home very interesting!). I could never picture exactly how this worked, and now I can! Thank you!
Tina says
I own one of these too!!!! A few years ago, I saw it at a flea market shop in my home town and wanted it so badly but couldn’t figure out a place to put a second stove, a couple weeks later my stove broke, never thought I’d be praising God for a broke stove but I sure did and went straight to the shop to bring home my oh so wonderful retro kitchen appliance. Mine is free standing with storage space underneath and I love love love it!
Amy says
I am cracking up over how many people have one of these! My landlord from years ago had one in his house…that’s why I wasn’t so freaked out by it. Too funny, Tina!
Heather says
So jealous!!! This is the stove My mother had when I was growing up! It is the most convenient and amazing design. My parents dragged it around the country for 35 years. Dad replaced parts and repaired it as needed. My family mourned it’s death deeply.
Heather says
I should also mention that it is featured prominently in the retro television show “Bewitched”.
Christy dR says
Love it!
Lisa says
I found your post because my grandparents had that same exact stove and I was trying to explain it to my husband, because I would LOVE to have one! I’m totally jealous 🙂
Mrs. Mandy Pants says
We had this stove in the house I grew up in. I loved it! I’ve been looking for one for my own home. It was such a space saver, and I just loved the way it looked. Ours was the old school avocado green.
