The giveaway has ended. The winner is Luanna! Congratulations!
Very rarely have I managed to go through a pregnancy and sleep like a baby. Most of the time, by the third trimester I’m averaging between 3 and 5 hours each night. Some days that is plenty. Other days I crash and burn.
I learned long ago that finding something else to focus on during those hours I’m not sleeping helps to relax me enough to actually finally fall asleep and stay asleep.
Here are just a few of the things I’ve been doing this pregnancy to manage a little “shut eye.”
— Watching Food Network shows on Hulu. Not only do I now know how to make a mean squab, I actually know what a squab is! (When I was pregnant with Garin, I watched enough Deadliest Catch to know how to run my own crabbing operation!)
— Watching Call the Midwife on PBS.org for FREE. I seriously love to watch birthing movies, so this is exactly what I was looking for. Other pregnancies have found me watching The Business of Being Born and TLC’s World Birthday.
— Reading Born to Deliver. Again, I have this thing about reading and watching birth stories, so when I was offered an advanced copy of midwife Kathy Brace’s book Born to Deliver, I jumped on it! (When I finish it, I’ll be posting a review.) In previous pregnancies, I’ve read Labor of Love (not a favorite) and Baby Catcher (LOVED this book!)
— Eating a bit of protein before bed. This has been really helpful and gives my stomach something to gnaw on.
— Listening to music. I’ve mentioned before that music from David Nevue and Enya really help me to relax and sleep. Once baby is here, I like to turn on music when I get up to nurse in the night.
— Making sure the house is the right temperature. Everyone else is freezing, but I’m feeling great!
— Covering up with a blanket I like. I get super itchy when I’m pregnant, so something as small as what kind of blanket I’m sleeping under can make a huge difference. In fact, I had such an affinity for a certain blanket when I was pregnant with my last baby, that we affectionately named it “Greeny.”
— Keeping the kids out of the bed until it is morning. Granted, our bed has seen better days, but putting even one extra child in it (namely the 3 year old) makes my back ache something terrible.
— Reducing how often I have to get up at night. Some things just can’t be helped, but when my littlest guy started waking up in the night because his disposable diaper had leaked everywhere, I knew it was time to do something different.
Remember when I did the Cloth Diapering Basics series and I said someday I was going to try wool covers because everyone I knew raves about them? Well, getting up every night to change wet clothes and sheets was enough to push me over the edge!
Coleen from Sweet Little Blessings sent me some EcoPosh wool covers to try on my wet little guy and I wrote an excited Facebook status the day they arrived and I started washing them up! I had several readers ask me to post a review once I’d had a chance to try them, so I figured this post was a great place to do that…especially since I get to add an awesome giveaway on to it!
The EcoPosh Wool Cover comes in 2 different sizes:
Size 1 for 8-20 lbs
Size 2 for 15-35 lbs
I got 2 in each size because I was convinced this was going to work. Two is perfect because you can switch off and on and still have one on hand if one needs washing (they do take at least 24 hours to dry).
Washing them up the first time was super easy. I followed these directions. I’ve only had to wash them one time since that initial wash and all that took was a 15 minute soak in wool wash and laying out to dry on a towel.
They fit over the prefolds like a dream! I like prefolds at night because they are so incredibly absorbant. The cover fit over them perfectly.
On the occasional night when I have to put him in a disposable, I still put the wool cover over it. I read about people doing this and decided if I was going to have to put those leaky diapers on him, at least he was going to stay dry. It works!
Garin seems quite comfy. He really likes his wool covers (as you can see from all the posing he did for me when I told him I was going to take his picture 😉 )
I am beyond pleased with these covers and so glad Coleen from Sweet Little Blessings introduced me to them! I cannot wait to put them on the new baby!
Jenny says
Oh I’d love to try one of these on our new “little” guy. He was 10 pounds at birth and is a BIG wetter! I’ve never tried wool before but would like to give it a go.

Jessica says
I have never tried these, but what a great way to help a little one night train.
Rachel~At the Butterfly Ball says
I had one wool cover that fit my current (in diapers) baby when he was much smaller. I loved it!
Stephanie says
I have never heard of wool covers but my toddler also has leaking diapers at night and it is so frustrating! Sometimes she sleeps through it and I find her in the morning with the coldest rear-end ever!
brooke bakhuyzen says
I love wool covers. I made 3 wool sleep sacks for my little girl. She is 3 weeks old and they work great at night. I would love to win this to add to them.

Grace Wheeler says
I’ve never used wool covers, but I too have only heard friends rave about them, so I’d love to win and give a set a try!!
S. C. Andrews says
These look great. Both my kids are older but I’ve been on the lookout for a baby present for my brother who’s going to have his first in a month. These look great and I do remember waking up and finding the diaper leaked. This would be a great helper.
Dana K says
I also liked the wool covers. I just have one. The only trouble I had was with the fit on my toddler. The cover didn’t completely cover the fitted diaper I used. (It didn’t pull over the top well enough.) That was the only way I ever saw a leak. The fit is much better with my 7-month-old who has some thinner thighs.
Brianna says
Thank you for the wool cover review! I remember reading that you would be writing one soon and I was actually going to send a message asking for it! My kids too, get rashes in cloth at night. I have an 18mo and I’m due in a few months so I’m ready to try the wool out and hopefully stop buying disposables! How do you secure the diaper underneath the wool cover? I’ve had a bad experience with snappis hurting my son during the day. (Night might be better because he’s not so active.) Or do you use safety pins? Thanks!
Amy says
I use snappis (here’s a link to a post I did about prefolds and snappis: https://raisingarrows.net/2011/09/how-to-diaper-a-baby-using-prefolds-and-a-snappi/ ). I haven’t had any rashes at night since switching to the wool covers!
Sara says
Wool Cover? Yes please! We cloth diaper on a budget so I will be really excited if I get this.
Kristin says
I’ve never tried wool covers, but I’ve been itching to give them a try 😉
Cecilia says
I have used one, but not at night yet. When my disposable stash is gone, I will do that. My grandma and I even made one for my baby. 🙂
Mary Anne says
I’m so glad this worked for your little guy! Thank you for the awesome giveaway. I’ve been wanting to try a wool cover over my fitteds at night but I can not bring myself to pay $60+.
CW says
I haven’t used wool covers, but my sister says they’re great. I’m glad to hear they help with night-time leaking.
Emily Spencer says
I’d love to try the wool cover! I’ve been cloth diapering my 4 month old since she was a month old. I haven’t tried wool yet, but I’ve heard so much about it. It would be great to have a good nighttime solution before we start having leaking problems.
Tiffani says
I used a wool cover for a few weeks with my toddler, right before potty training. 🙂 I didn’t get to use it as long as I thought because she trained so quickly.
Jacki M says
Never tried a wool cover before. My husband and I have discussed it several times but we got into cloth diapering for the savings and the price of wool covers scare me. I did try knitting a wool cover once but lanolizing was a pain! Thank you for offering this awesome giveaway!
Jessica Davenport says
We love our cloth diapers but haven’t tried the wool before! Thanks!
Rachel B. says
Would love to try this!
Amy Mac says
I have always been afraid of wool, I was told my second was allergic, but now research shows me he is probably allergic to “stuff” on them.
Amy says
There is a possibility of allergies, so I wanted to give the option of the gift certificate too just in case. 🙂
Deanna says
I have never tried wool but would love to give it a shot! Thanks 🙂

What a timely giveaway! I’m 31 weeks pregnant with #4 (just a couple of weeks ahead of you!) and I’ve never cracked the nighttime cloth diaper thing. I’d really like to do that this time, and I’ve been considering wool. A free cover to try would be awesome!! Thanks for the giveaway!

I’m almost 6mos pregnant and already having a hard time sleeping. *sigh* I’m never quite ready to face the day! And I LOVED Baby Catcher; I’ll have to check out Born to Deliver.
Anyhoo… I’ve never used wool but am planning to with #3. I got a few covers and made some upcycled soakers, as well as a couple fleece ones for my 2-year-old who occasionally has accidents.
I would LOVE to get an EcoPosh cover – I’ve heard great things about them.
Sarah M says

Rebekah says
I would love to try these! Right now I am limited to using just 2-3 specific diapers and covers on my little girl because everything else just isn’t absorbent enough for her.
Venessa Palmer says
I have never used a wool cover, and can’t since I’m allergic to wool 🙁 , but would still love to win a gift certificate to try Sweet Little Blessings! 🙂
Amy says
I was thinking of you. 😉
Amber says
I have been wanting to try wool at night for my little one too, since everywhere I go, people rave about it! And with another little one on the way (you and I are less than a week apart!), it would be great to have found a way not to have to worry about changing an extra diaper in the middle of the night! The hardest part now is just choosing which ones to buy! Thanks for the review!
Lindsay says
Another thing that really helped me sleep while I was pregnant was Natural Calm. It’s a magnesium supplement that helped with my RLS and seriously helped me sleep all night without being drugged (so I could still get up with my kids if I needed to).
And we LOVE wool. L.O.V.E.
Lisa says
Hope you get some rest. My sleep seriously suffers during pregnancy also!
Tamra says
I’ve been looking for a solution to night time diapers that smell like ammonia in the morning. I think the added air flow from a wool cover would help a lot.
Lisa W. says
There is nothing like a little one in a cozy wool cover. I actually knit ours though, haven’t used many commercially made covers. These look like great coverage though!
Amy says
I would love to see some of your work, Lisa!
Lisa W. says
Here are most of what I’ve knit previously. I have also sewn covers and longies from thrifted wool sweaters. That’s a nice quick (and sometimes really cool colors) way of adding to your wool stash.

Beth Klongpayabal says

vicki says
I have never used wool covers, but I’m anxious to try them! 🙂

Vanessa says
Due in April and would LOVE to try wool!
Elizabeth H. says

Shannon Paldino says
I started cloth diapering my youngest 2 (of 10) about a month ago, and have yet to try wool covers, but am excited to give it a try some day. 🙂
Sarah says
I use cloth diapers part of the time. Prefolds are our current diaper of choice. I use disposables at night because my little guy sleeps through the night and I am not about to wake him up to change him! (Especially since this is my first of 4 children to sleep through the night before turning 20 months old!) I am concerned about a wet diaper against his skin all night. I like the idea of using a wool cover to protect against leaks, but do you use a fleece liner or something between the diaper and baby?
Amy says
I don’t use anything man made at night because my children don’t react well to it. If anything, add more layers of cotton based fabrics to the diaper. I’ve been surprised that just adding the wool covers have made the diaper so much more breathable and comfortable for baby.
Dana says
I desperately need something so my son doesn’t wet through every night too! Would love to win!
Tammy says
Oh my goodness!!! I have never heard of such a thing!! Wow! I am so tired of waking up to a wet bed and having to wash bedding….A LOT! I am a newbie to using wool covers but they look so much trimmer than pocket AIO or even AI2 dipes. I bet my little one would love a bit more freedom from the bulkier dipers.
Susan L says
never used them, but they sound fabulous!
Jaclyn says
I just watched The Business Of Being Born last night with my husband! And I am so sad and scared of this delivery because of the knowledge I have (for the first time) in my pregnancy. How I wish a home birth or birthing center was an option for us…..
Amy says
Jacklyn, I deliver in a hospital and have sought out doctors who are on board with how I like to do things. I’ve had really good experiences. 🙂
Natasha says

Amy,
I’m 31 weeks pregnant with baby #12 and remembered a few books you spoke about in this post…so I came back to look them up and order them. I don’t sleep much now at night, and thought some reading would be good.
Thank you for posting so many wonderful resources on your blog, and also sharing about your family life. This is the kind blog I enjoy and feel doesn’t consume time as it’s a great tool and such an encouragement.
Blessings to you and your family~
