It was just one of those weeks. I’m pretty sure Satan thought he’d knock me down due to all the things I was hoping to implement this week. Praise the Lord for good friends who were there to pick me up!
I thought I’d give you a glimpse of my week as far as homeschooling is concerned and link it up to Weird Unsocialized Homeschooler’s Weekly Wrap Up. Let me know if you enjoy reading about our week and I’ll try to continue!
Monday: Spent the entire morning on the phone. I’m changing obstetricians…again…and that creates a ton of paperwork. Thanks to a new assignment folder I created for the children, the big kids (ages 12 & 9) got all their work accomplished while I was getting everything straightened out. {I hope to unveil this new secret homeschool assignment weapon next week!}
I never did get to phonics with my 5 year old and my husband had to do Grammar with our 9 year old daughter later in the evening. But, overall, I was just pleased we managed to get any school done. Oh, and we found a butterfly, two spiders, and half a snake…science, right?
Tuesday: Got up early and got the day off to a great start! School went smoothly and my 12 year old decided to work ahead so he’d have less of a workload the rest of the week {plus, he was going to Grandma’s for a visit}. We did 2 days worth of Phonics because I wasn’t sure what the rest of the week held.
Had a wonderfully uplifting conversation with a friend via the phone that really spurred me on. And then it all went downhill from there.
Now, this has nothing to do with homeschooling, but it has everything to do with plans…the kind that fall through, to be exact. My husband was supposed to grill steaks and have a campfire with the kiddos while I went grocery shopping (because we are in the OUT house right now–as in, OUT of everything!), but a meeting he was in ran VERY, VERY late and I ended up cooking the steaks inside, giving all the children baths, and sending them to be long before Daddy got home. The success of all this was my attitude. I managed to cheerfully accept my fallen through plans. Yay for me!
Wednesday: After a rotten night’s sleep, I did not get up as early as I wanted to and the bigs ended up making waffles for breakfast. I sort of wandered through the morning, wondering when I might be able to take a nap. Everyone got most of their work accomplished in the morning hours. I decided what they got completed was good enough.
After a spaghetti lunch, I put the baby down and proceeded to read from Across Five Aprils to the children. Six pages into it I had to stop because my eyes were dropping to the floor. The children graciously let me sleep.
About 45 minutes later, my mom showed up to watch the kids while I grocery shopped and took my wonderful husband out for dinner at Chipotle. (YUM!) She did math with my 5 year old while I wore my sciatic nerve out at the grocery store. But hey, the shopping got done and we are now the STOCKED house!
That night, my right arm oldest son headed home with Grandma. I made playdough for the ones left behind.
Thursday: This was supposed to be our community gardening day, but it rained all week long, so we won’t go until the weekend when we can go as a family. I had purposely made a light day for school, so I decided I better get to work on decluttering the kitchen with the help of my 9 year old (and a few extra toddler-sized hands). I also did quite a bit of writing as I was feeling creative and needed to finish up some projects. The only school that really got done today was my 9yo’s Grammar (2 days worth) and my preschooler’s Rod & Staff workbook (and only because he begged me 😉 )
And Friday: Well, since I am writing this on Thursday, I have no idea what tomorrow holds. Hopefully, some windshield time with my husband and a nice start to our weekend!
Head back here tomorrow to see what I got accomplished in the Kitchen with Half My Stuff Saturday!

Yes, please continue. I love to read about everyone’s week. Sounds like you ended up with the shopping done, a dinner out with dh & a fair amount of schooling done, so I’d call your week a success!

I certainly love hearing about your week. This is my first year at homeschooling. We are starting our 3rd week, come this one. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with it all, and I wander, is this normal? Can I do it? Am I the only one?? things like that. Then I come here to raising arrows, and as always, I’m encouraged, uplifted, and blessed. Keep being the blessing you are 🙂 I appreciate all you do, and the time you give to your blog. God Bless!
