My guess is most of you reading my blog are also living a crazy life right along with me. It isn’t uncommon for me to wake up, just get going for the day, and suddenly find myself at 8pm, wondering where my day went to! In fact, is anyone else just floored it is Spring already? Didn’t I just take down my Christmas tree?
But all this craziness, leads me to why it is so important to have a peaceful bedroom. Your bedroom should be a room you can walk into and literally and audibly sigh with relief.
You need a room like that.
Your husband needs a room like that.
All day long we are busy. We both work like mad. As soon as Ty gets home, the children pile on top of him while I scramble to finish dinner. After that there are table chores and baths and a movie and prayers and we collapse.
But, there is that room.
That quiet haven where we remember who we were, rejoice in who we are, and look forward to who we will be.
Our bedroom is a place of prayer, catching up on the day’s events, discussing important family matters. To some people, that wouldn’t seem relaxing, but it is. Our bedroom is us. It is our world, refined and honed.
The children are not allowed to play in our room. They are welcome to come in, but no wildness is acceptable. Several of them manage to meander their way into our bedroom throughout the night, and we gladly welcome them (unless one of us has a serious backache or we run out of room!) But, they know that room is different…a good different.
Today through Wednesday, I’ll be expounding on practical ways to make your bedroom a haven. I’ll show you some of the ideas we’ve implemented in our bedroom and give you a chance to brainstorm as well.
But, right now I want to invite you to a very special blog hop centered around sprucing up the spaces in our homes.

oh thank you so much… I am really looking forward to your ideas. This is an area, as silly as it sounds, that I have always struggled with. I have been realizing how important it is for us to have our own little haven, especially now that my dad lives with us, but unfrotunately, our room has always been more like our control center … last place I worry about making nice. I really want to change that 🙂

Our room ends up being the “dumping ground” for any homeless items that need to be stashed. I am hoping this changes, with our recent remodel, and reorganization! (moving our boys in together)
Your room is lovely!

We try to keep our room the same way. 🙂

I generally manage to keep our bedroom tidy and decluttered, but we are just now moving towards regarding our bedroom as a place that is set apart from the rest of the house, where the kids have free rein. Can’t wait to read your ideas!

I used to pine away for the same thing! Then one day I saw someone post a link to http://www.flylady.com – it’s an organizing and decluttering system that’s totally free! And her system has totally changed how I manage our house.
I even have a wonderful sanctuary for a bedroom when it used to be more like an office in there!
So I’m letting everyone know, in case someone like the old me reads this and finds it and figures out how simple it can be to have a home that blesses you 🙂

What a beautiful way to think of the master bedroom. It makes me want to go fix mine up right now. I can’t wait to read your tips!

I try to keep our room fairly neat, but the piles pile up. 🙂 But it’s funny you have this on here today. My husband left town this morning. I got out of bed and thought, “I am NOT making this bed today. He’s gone and I don’t care!” Hee hee hee! 🙂 Quite the opposite feeling!

Thank you for this post and the upcoming ideas you will be sharing. This area has been such a struggle for me the past twelve years of marriage, but one I know is important and desirable. I look forward to reading what you share!

Yes, yes and yes.
My bedroom has gotten away from me. I consider it to be a haven of rest (literally!) and I’ve really let it go. We keep a new baby in our room until about 2 months old and then transition him/her to the nursery. Well, the baby has been out of our room for 2 months now and it still is a disaster!
I must make it a priority to get it back to the peaceful room I need it to be!

I look forward to the posts about school rooms! I am just in the very beginning of doing research on whether we will start home schooling next year and I need a lot of advice on how to organize an area for school. We do not have an extra room for that specifically and I just can’t figure out where we will do our schooling. I guess at our kitchen table and have our supplies and what not in our storage closet in the kitchen…?
Any advice is welcome! Thanks a bunch!

Our bedroom is a very peaceful place too. I think it helps that it is on a different floor of our house from almost everything else. I’m not always crazy about that, but on that front, it helps.

I so agree with you! No desks piled with clutter allowed in our bedroom, not even memo boards as they just look cluttery. I’m all about calm, simple, serene. Which is what your photo makes me think- and you’ve just moved, wow!

Sigh, my room was clean–and now–it’s lost again. I do have a pretty stained glass window in our room, which at least gives me a peacefull feeling. My to-do list includes painting our room and putting up rain gutter book shelves…I can dream right?! {Really, I’d like to switch our schoolroom & bedroom…that makes my hubby cringe.}

Hi Amy :0)
As usual, your post is very timely. My Spring Spruce Up project this week is the master bedroom. I so want it to be a haven. But, alas, it sooooo easy to use it as a dumping ground when we do the mad-dash-because-someone-is-knocking-on-the-door! and then shut the door and forget it.
I’ll be watching closely this week for ideas and inspiration!
britt says
I’m afraid my bedroom is a dumping ground. I need this inspiration. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the inspiration! I 100% agree about always having the bed made-not only does it instantly look nicer, but provides an extra surface during the day for such things as laundry folding, etc. Problem I’m having is that our office/desk is also in our bedroom, so it’s a struggle to make that corner look tidy. I’m trying to find some creative inspiration to mesh the bedroom and office into a peaceful space.
